More information about this job: Overview: KIPP NYC is the family of all KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) programming in New York City and includes four KIPP public middle schools (KIPP Academy, KIPP STAR, KIPP AMP, and KIPP Infinity), four new KIPP NYC elementary schools, and KIPP New York City College Prep High School (opening in July 2009), designed to teach students to develop the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school and college, to be self-sufficient in the competitive world beyond, and to build a better tomorrow for themselves and us all (www.kippnyc.org). KIPP NYC College Prep will bring together students from all four KIPP middle schools for their high school experience. The school will open in July 2009 with a ninth grade class of 180 students and will eventually grow to serve nearly 800 students. KIPP NYC College Prep is looking for founding teachers in all subject areas, including special education, health, physical education, and the arts. Responsibilities: KIPP NYC is looking for founding staff members that understand the importance of great teaching, building relationships with students, parents and staff, and planning for both the academic and culture components of a new high school. Founding staff members should have a strong commitment to building an amazing program for KIPP NYC students and ensuring the school's success as KIPP NYC College Prep grows from ninth grade only to a fully grown high school in 2013. KIPP NYC is looking for teachers who combine the ability to motivate and educate, to develop academic as well as character skills, and to make a college preparatory education relevant both now and for the future. General responsibilities include (but are not limited to): • Teaching a rigorous college preparatory curriculum which combines the school's standards and the New York State Standards. • Teaching students in a high-quality, exciting way. • A commitment to constant professional and personal growth through working closely as part of a team of teachers. • Constantly assessing student progress, and communicating results to families and colleagues. • Providing individual or small group instruction for students who need additional assistance. • Modeling the school's values in all communications with students, families, and staff.

Qualifications: KIPP NYC is looking for exceptional teachers who have achieved dramatic results with their students and have a strong interest in building a school of excellence from the ground up.
