Assists in all aspects of the daily production of news programming including assigning stories, copy editing stories, and coordinating live shots and overseeing taping in the control room. Coordinates with the activities of the writers, reporters, technical staff and all other news production staff who are directly responsible for taking each news story from its concept to the air. Makes certain that we provide a balanced, accurate, objective picture of all newsworthy events. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITES Preparation . Keeps informed on current issues by reading newspapers, wires, todays queue, monitoring wheel and reviewing packages. . Prepares news stories based on information provided by the assignment desk, wire service, newspapers, press releases, NY1 Archives and videotape shot in the field. . Adds video, sound and chyrons. Writing and Copy Editing . Writes clear, simple scripts for anchors to read. . Updates scripts as news changes. . Provides scripts in a timely fashion. . Suggests ways to improve the process. . Reviews content of news stories and checks for errors of fact, technical errors, creative content, miscues, editorial mistakes and all elements needed to deliver quality news programming. Other duties as assigned. EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE Bachelors Degree, preferably in Journalism/Communication /English or related field. Experience: . Minimum 2 years experience in news programming, preferably 1 year experience as an assistant producer . Covering news, preferable NY news . Some life experiences in NYC. . Strong journalistic writing, editing, creating stories and making editorial decisions experience. . Some feeder position and video graphing is helpful.
