Fidelity.com is a highly trafficked, award winning website that supports Fidelity’s mission to be the lifetime financial service provider for its customers. Fidelity plans to reinvent this experience to become the definitive online destination for consumers seeking financial guidance across all areas of their life.

Position Description:

The managing editor will lead a team of producers and writers who build compelling, innovative news and personal finance content for a new Web site from Fidelity Investments, the leading mutual fund company in the United States. The ME will be instrumental in creating a ‘voice’ to help people solve their financial problems and answer their financial questions. Part of that will be helping consumers to understand the day’s business news and market developments — and how they can profit from them. Another part is using Internet-rich media — videos, blogs, podcasts, calculators and other tools — to help consumers with their finances, and keep them engaged and coming back for more. Primary Responsibilities: * Orchestrate creation of original content for business news and personal finance areas of the site * Lead team of producers, writers, editors, artists and other staffers and freelancers * Work with the editor-in-chief to manage production and editing of original content, Fidelity content and third-party content * Edit stories for organization, accuracy, consistency and style; manage the editorial process, tracking progress to ensure meeting milestones * Assure timeliness of news coverage * Develop suggestions to improve depth and breadth of news and personal finance coverage, and the content publishing process * Manage creation and use of graphics, charts, research tools, video, polls, calculators and other interactive elements * Establish and maintain good working relationships with writers, producers, product managers, technology developers and other key partners * Assign and manage bloggers and copy editors * Monitor Web stats and focus group results and adjust coverage accordingly * Maintain editorial calendar for breaking news and personal finance * Establish and maintain standards for quality, accuracy, and consistency of Web content across distribution channels * Create new ways to leverage Fidelity content through syndication, packaging, new templates, use of user-generated content, etc. * Build new tools and editorial formats, as needed * Help create special reports and pages * Ensure copy is search optimized and that guidelines are met * Follow corporate guidelines for copyrights, trademarks, standards * Ensure that legal, risk, and compliance processes are adhered to * Develop and implement a procedure for corrections * Other duties as needed

Qualifications

Education and Experience: * The ideal candidate will have at least 10 years of business journalism experience * BA or MA in journalism, English or a related field Skills and Knowledge: * Possess stellar writing and copyediting skills * Well versed in developing and publishing dynamic Web content and have impeccable organizational, people and leadership skills * Goal-oriented and driven, yet also a flexible team player * Deep knowledge of world markets, investing and financial planning a strong plus * Proven ability to manage a staff * Strong writing and copyediting skills * Strong leader and team player * Organized, meets deadlines Technical Skills: * Strong Web and search skills * Strong knowledge of Web publishing * Strong knowledge of libel guidelines * Familiar with Photoshop, Internet video systems * Knowledge of html, xml, JavaScript, “flash” a plus Company Description
