Description: GENERAL SUMMARY: * Assist Director of Store Design in daily department management. * Assume responsibility for plan reviews and design presentations for both Gap and BR brands. * Manage schematic and design development of all architectural concepts for both Gap and BR brands for Franchise stores. * Ensure design standards and concepts are maintained in all architectural details * Manage, assist and develop direct reports (in the future — this position currently has no direct reports only contractors) and franchisee store design partners. * Monitor established annual budget. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: * Supervise franchisees, consultants and direct report(s) who are members of team(s) creating store designs and concepts for both BR and Gap brands internationally. Oversee implementation of new store concepts and prototypes for architecture and fixtures as leveraged from the North America Banana Republic and Gap Brand business. * Responsible for preparing detailed schematic and design development packages for both Gap and BR brands, clear communication with franchisees, and understanding of the end-to-end store development process. * Review construction document packages from franchisees for conformity to design intent and brand standards. * Responsible for designing constructible, cost-considerate layouts. Must have understanding of brand strategy and the purpose of key design elements. Serve as an authority and advisor on design issues including the development of design and construction details for implementation. * Establish and supervise the interpretation of design elements and visual design , provide guidance and direction to team and franchisees. * Develop VM fixture schedules and quantities for all projects; facilitate relationships between franchisees, Gap inc. Strategic Sourcing and Gap vendors. * Serve as an authority and advisor on design issues including development of design, construction and fixture details for prototype and implementation. * Oversee and participate in maintaining cross functional communication, partnership and providing quality customer service within our division, our franchisees, and the North America Gap and Banana Republic brands. * Assist in development and updates to design guidelines and regular communication to franchisees. * Training & Development: maintains regular training to enhance existing skills and knowledge of department protocol, design standards, quality control, managing and influencing franchisees * Prepare performance reviews and salary reviews for staff (as applicable and as team grows) ORGANIZATION RELATIONSHIPS: * Work directly with Sr. Management, Visual, Construction, Sales, Marketing, and Merchandising and franchisees. REQUIRED SKILLS: * Excellent ability to create, understand and translate three dimensional space concepts into conceptual drawings. * Have an excellent understanding of proportion, and be able to translate ideas, forms, and functions into cohesive design concepts without supervision. * Must be a strong leader and possess proven influencing skills. * Excellent project planning and time management skills * Self-starter, ability to work independently and virtually with team members who in multiple time zones around the world * Experience managing expectations in a fast paced environment; customer service oriented * Ability to manage multiple projects of varying scopes concurrently * Effective negotiator * Ability to analyse data to inform decisions * Excellent verbal and visual communication skills a must in order to relate to many management types and levels * CADD experience required EDUCATION: * Bachelors degree in Architecture, Industrial Design, Interior Design, or 5 years equivalent. EXPERIENCE: * 5+ years work experience in design; 3 years of which in retail design preferred. * Must have been in a supervisory role for 2 years OTHER REQUIREMENTS: * Available for international travel (approximately 3-4 international trips/year) * Attending late night or early morning global conference calls might be required. * Available some weekends or evenings
