Description: Job Title Lead Developer - New York Kaplan Division Kaplan Test Prep City New York State/Province New York FT/PT Full Time Job Level Management Required Working Hours Days Job Description Kaplan currently has an opening for a Lead Developer who will lead an agile development team to design, develop and enhance the Kaplan Business Suite of applications. You will help develop systems using Java technologies such as JSP, AJAX, Spring, Hibernate etc. As a technical lead:

* Perform Agile development of Java based solutions through iterations and releases. * Develop software, perform unit testing and create documentation. * Meet with clients to identify project requirements, test, write and implement software according to the clients specifications. * Should be passionate about testability, supportability, extensibility, simple design, high cohesion and low coupling, programming to interfaces, maintaining high unit test coverage, and keeping large suites of unit tests running very quickly. * Work with architecture and other technical teams to integrate with other Kaplan Test Prep systems

As a team lead you must have:

* Experience with light-weight and/or Agile development methodologies, and with the realities of commercial software engineering. * Experience with the entire software lifecycle - analysis, design, implementation, quality assurance, deployment, and maintenance * Proven track record in architecture and creation of professional grade software

You will be expected to:

* Coordinate and supervise a small team of engineers to implement the entire lifecycle * Gather requirements and interact directly with customers * Maintain, update and communicate project status proactively * Monitor and guide progress of developers towards specific, deadline-driven goals

Technical Requirements:

* B.S. in Computer Science or equivalent * Must have at least 5+ years of Java and J2EE based web development experience using one or more application servers like JBoss, Tomcat, Weblogic, Websphere or ATG Dynamo * Must have project experience in one or more open source frameworks Seam, Spring, Hibernate & EJB3 * Expert-level Java skills and object oriented design experience, including strong knowledge of core libraries and common design patterns * Experience with light-weight and/or Agile development methodologies, and with the realities of commercial software engineering. * SQL Experience and knowledge of Oracle and/or other databases * Significant development experience in a cross-platform, cross-browser environment * Experience with a wide array of modern programming tools and languages * User-facing product design and development, including user-interface work. * Scripting skills such as Perl, Ruby or Groovy a plus
