More information about this job: Overview: KIPP NYC is the family of all KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) programming in New York City and includes four KIPP public middle schools (KIPP Academy, KIPP STAR, KIPP AMP, and KIPP Infinity) designed to teach students to develop the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school and college, to be self-sufficient in the competitive world beyond, and to build a better tomorrow for themselves and us all (www.kippnyc.org). KIPP to College (KTC) works with the alumni of KIPP Academy (Bronx), KIPP STAR (Harlem), KIPP AMP (Brooklyn), and KIPP Infinity (Harlem/Washington Heights) to empower them for success in college and the world beyond. KTC currently works with over 650 KIPP NYC alumni and eighth graders (www.kipptocollege.org). KTC offers High School and College Placement, Academic Support, Career Services, Counseling, and Enrichment. Staff members are expected to work out of KIPP NYC's multiple school locations throughout the week. KIPP to College is seeking an individual to fill the position of High School Placement Advisor on its High School Placement and Academic Support Team.

Responsibilities: • Prepare students for the high school placement process by: o Teaching High School Placement class and parent workshops at KIPP Infinity; o Assisting with standardized test preparation for the TACHS, SSAT, ISEE and SHSAT; administering the SSAT and ISEE exams at KIPP Infinity; o Arranging admission visitors to KIPP Infinity and student visits to high schools. • Guide students and families through the high school application process throughout the summer and the school year by: o Directing and organizing KIPP Infinity high school applications to public schools, Catholic schools, boarding schools, A Better Chance programs, independent day schools, and SSP applications; o Advising KIPP Infinity students and families on the high school application process and decision-making including financial aid; o Assisting with high school placement at other KIPP NYC schools throughout the week. • Work with KIPP Infinity 7th and 8th grade teachers and school leader to keep them informed about high school placement activities and also to assist with application process where applicable, e.g. standardized test preparation and application essays. • Manage a cluster of high schools with a caseload of alumni; help track alumni and resolve academic, financial, and social issues; and build relationships with schools by: o Assisting students with academic issues, referring to the Academic Coordinator as needed; o Staying in continuous contact with alumni in order to monitor their progress and troubleshoot challenges; o Working with Counseling Team to support students with challenging personal or social situations; o Fulfilling all school cluster advisor duties, including building relationships with cluster schools, conducting school visits, and collecting student data forms, transcripts, and other information. • Support the administration of the KIPP Opportunity Fund (KOF) program for KIPP Infinity students and families by: o Distributing checks for KOF students; o Working to resolve issues with KOF for students at that school. • Assist with the after-school Alumni Enrichment Program and the Summer Enrichment Program by: o After-school at KIPP Infinity on a weekly basis; o After-school at other KIPP NYC middle schools as needed; o Spending the summer at a central location. In addition, all KIPP to College staff commit to the following core responsibilities: • Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of alumni in and out of school. • Commit to doing whatever it takes, whenever it needs to be done, to empower our alumni to be successful. • Share responsibility for program activities, some of which take place during evenings or Saturdays, including: o Staffing after-school and weekend classes, the Summer Enrichment Program, the Summer Internship Program, and other KTC-related trips and activities; o Serving as a grade level, high school, college, and career advisor; • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues and respond to concerns promptly and thoroughly. • Participate actively in meetings, retreats, and workshops. • Commit to professional growth.

Qualifications: • Zest, grit, hope, love, social intelligence, gratitude, and a sense of humor :). • Possess a passion for the mission of KIPP NYC. • Outstanding organizational skills and high attention to detail; outstanding written and oral communication skills. • Extreme flexibility, with a strong work ethic and an entrepreneurial spirit to accommodate high level of responsibility and multiple priorities. • Desire to mentor young people, willingness to take initiative, a positive attitude towards challenges, and the ability to work well as a team member. • Possess three to five years of relevant work experience; teaching experience preferred. • Have professional or volunteer experience working directly with youth. • Possess some knowledge and understanding of high school placement processes.
