More information about this job: Overview: KIPP NYC is the family of all KIPP (Knowledge Is Power Program) programming in New York City and includes four KIPP public middle schools (KIPP Academy, KIPP STAR, KIPP AMP, and KIPP Infinity) designed to teach students to develop the academic and character skills necessary for success in high school and college, to be self-sufficient in the competitive world beyond, and to build a better tomorrow for themselves and us all (www.kippnyc.org). KIPP to College (KTC) works with the alumni of KIPP Academy (Bronx), KIPP STAR (Harlem), KIPP AMP (Brooklyn), and KIPP Infinity (Harlem/Washington Heights) to empower them for success in college and the world beyond. KTC currently works with over 650 KIPP NYC alumni and eighth graders (www.kipptocollege.org). KTC offers High School and College Placement, Academic Support, Career Services, Counseling, and Enrichment. Staff members are expected to work out of KIPP NYC's multiple school locations throughout the week. KIPP to College is seeking a talented individual to fill the position of Director of Career Services on its College Support Team.

Responsibilities: • Develop a strategy for providing career development services to KIPP NYC's college age alumni (including college students, those who have dropped out of college, and those who never enrolled in college) by: o Assessing career resources provided by KTC and by schools and partner organizations; o Building external relationships with public, private, and non-profit organizations; o Using KTC alumni data and external research to drive planning; o Planning events and workshops; o Creating and/or compiling written career guides and resources. • Provide individual career counseling and career placement to alumni who are preparing to graduate from college and who have already graduated from college by: o Working with cluster advisors to assess campus career resources; o Acting as a primary or secondary job placement counselor for alumni. • Lead the Summer Internship Program, in partnership with the High School Career Placement Coordinator by: o Locating placements and making summer internship placement matches for college age alumni; o Guiding the overall structure for the Summer Internship Program, including the high school component. • Administer the Academic Year college work-study program. • Work with the College Support team to provide assistance, guidance, and advocacy to alumni that fall within the 25%% of students who do not graduate from college, including the 15%% of students who never matriculate to college. • Work with the Program Events Coordinator in the start-up and development of the KIPP Alumni Association. • Ensure that alumni career-related data is tracked and shared through the KTC database.

In addition, all KIPP to College staff commit to the following core responsibilities: • Demonstrate a relentless drive to improve the minds and lives of alumni in and out of school. • Commit to doing whatever it takes, whenever it needs to be done, to empower our alumni to be successful. • Share responsibility for program activities, some of which take place during evenings or Saturdays, including: o Staffing after-school and weekend classes, the Summer Enrichment Program, the Summer Internship Program, and other KTC-related trips and activities; o Serving as a grade level, high school, college, and career advisor; • Communicate effectively with students, families, and colleagues and respond to concerns promptly and thoroughly. • Participate actively in meetings, retreats, and workshops. • Commit to professional growth.
