This is a great opportunity to become a critical member of our development team, and we just happen to have an open position for Java Software Development Engineer on the Flights Team in New York, NY. The online travel industry is a fast-paced, highly competitive space that always keeps us on our toes, and we know the technology team is team is critical to Travelocity’s continued success. To compete in this market we must be quick to market with innovative solutions, able to adapt to changes in the market, and ready to meet or beat the competition with any new offerings. Our team is at the forefront of the online travel industry, using Java, web services, and best-of-breed proprietary and open-source systems to build high-availability, high-volume e-commerce and business applications. This position is a solid coding position, but it requires skills beyond general programming and software development. On our team, creativity and initiative is not only encouraged, but expected. The position requires a demonstrated ability to distill and synthesize true business requirements. The candidate will need to work closely with project management, technical analysts, business stakeholders and other technology teams. The candidate will be responsible for solving complex technical and logical problems, and for evaluation and integration of third-party software solutions (open source, in-house, and commercial). He or she should be able to work effectively with distributed teams across various product groups and geographic boundaries.

Experience with build, development, and test tools - CruiseControl, Selenium, FIT, Ant, Maven, JUnit, CVS or similar technologies . Familiarity with caching approaches and technologies (such as JCS) . Familiarity with UNIX or Linux . Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal . Significant experience working with SQL and relational databases (Hibernate, Oracle and/or MySQL) . Leadership opportunities available for strong candidates . Experience with airline reservation systems a plus

Qualifications EDUCATION:Bachelor degree or equivalent; EXPERIENCE:Minimum 3 years related experience; Good Communication skills, written and verbal; ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously. SPECIALIZED KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS: Our ideal candidate would have the following required skills and experience: . 3+ years developing Java applications including a track record of building high performance, reliable, scalable, and transactional systems . Experience with Agile approaches (XP, Scrum, etc), principles and practices (TDD, automation, simple design, etc), . Knowledge of OO design patterns . Experience in web services standards and related technologies (XML, SOAP, JiBX, Velocity etc.)
