More Info United Nations Core Values: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for Diversity Responsibilities This position is located in the Information Technology Operations Unit of the Information Management Services Section, United Nations Joint Staff Pension Fund (UNJSPF). Under the supervision of the Chief, Information Technology Operations Unit, the incumbent is responsible for the following duties: Installation and Administration of Websphere J2EE servers, J2EE Applications, Domino/Lotus Notes based Collaborative and Messaging environment and applications on multiple platforms like Linux, AIX and Windows; Monitor system performance and production management for the operating system (Linux), Application Servers (Websphere), Collaborative Environment (Domino based) and Software Applications (J2EE and Domino based); Install and maintain the Linux Operating System; Design, develop and support application development for collaborative technology (Domino based) and J2EE Technology (Websphere based) and using tools like Websphere Application Developer, Rational Application Developer and Lotus Enterprise Integrator for backend connectivity; Establish and maintain effective backup/disaster recovery procedures and environment; Manage independent projects involving feasibility studies, systems analysis, design, development and maintenance of complex collaborative applications using Lotus Notes and Domino based technologies and research, analyse and evaluate new technologies in the collaborative environment; Develop detailed systems and other functional specifications and user documentation for J2EE applications; Create user profiles within the Lotus Notes/Domino environment to manage access to various systems including housekeeping on user profiles/id to keep the various directories including LDAP to be synchronised; Maintain, upgrade or enhance existing user systems; troubleshoot and provide continuing user support, to include resolving difficult problems, advising on the use of new techniques, monitoring transactions to measure performance and continued effectiveness of assigned systems. Develop training materials, operating and user manuals; train staff in assigned systems;Provide guidance to, and may supervise, new/junior staff, consultants. Competencies Professionalism - Theoretical background and substantial experience in information technology/information management, particularly in systems installation, Configuration, administration and management, analysis, Application design and programming; Analytical and problem-solving skills including knowledge in the Systems Development Methodology; knowledge of organizations information infrastructure and IT strategy as it relates to user area(s); ability to independently maintain assigned systems and develop innovative approaches to resolve a wide range of issues/problems; good knowledge of relevant internal policies and business activities and processes within the area(s) in which the system operates; takes responsibility for incorporating gender perspectives and ensuring the equal participation of women and men in all areas of work; Exposure to and proficiency in all aspects of programming and analysis. Knowledge of Domino based applications and administration of Collaborative Environment. QUALIFICATIONS Education Advanced university degree (Masters degree or equivalent) in Computer or Information Systems, Mathematics, Statistics or other related field. A first level university degree in combination with qualifying experience may be accepted in lieu of the advanced university degree. Work Experience At least five years of progressively responsible experience in planning design, development, implementation and maintenance of computer information systems. Experience in the management and development in J2EE environment, as well as with Linux based servers including managing clustering, security and performance is required. Experience in several high level programming languages and technology that include Lotus Notes/Domino objects, Java, Lotus script, Java Script, XML, D/HTML, CSS, JSP, JSF, JDBC and databases like IBM DB/2 required. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in written and spoken English is required; working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable. Other Skills Knowledge of Blackberry server and related applications are desirable.
