Description: Posting Job Title HBO Vice President, Production Engineering (Studio pre post prod) TimeWarner Division HBO Industry Cable/Broadcast Television Networks Film Production and Distribution Television Program Production and Distribution Location United States - New York - New York Requisition # 92773BR Position Type Full Time Posting Job Description Position Overview: The Production Engineering Department is responsible for planning, designing, installing, and testing professional post production systems (audio, video, control, IT, etc.) in support of the programming/promotional departments that create programming content for HBO (HBO Sports, Documentary programming, Creative Services), in addition to supporting desktop editing systems. Position Summary: The VP, Production Engineering will provide strategic guidance and direction in the design and implementation of production systems for a wide range of projects and facilities at HBO. (Engineering projects may include automation implementation, large and small scale routers, post production systems, production studios, graphics facilities, distribution, networking, transition from analog to digital and High Definition.).Primary Responsibilities: * Provide oversight to the Installation and Maintenance Departments in the repair, support and disposition of production tools and equipment, and deployment of maintenance systems and procedures. Will work with all other departments at HBO Studio Productions to make the most efficient use of the equipment, resources and personnel managed by the HBO Studio Productions Engineering Department. * Technical Design oversight of audio/video/control/communications/IT for professional post production systems * Interact with management in Operations and other Engineering areas to provide appropriate technical solutions to their requests * Interact with vendors in the procurement of equipment (Cables/ Connectors / Hardware). Negotiate and review contracts as appropriate. * Oversee database and storage management and the development and maintenance of the servers and storage required for our HBOs on-demand area. * Manage Digital Asset Management & Media Asset Management content requirements Required Qualifications: * College degree or equivalent experience required; BS in Engineering or Telecommunications preferred. * 15+ years experience in Television broadcasting, and Post production, including a minimum of 10 years in a production engineering management role, overseeing the design and installation of post production and broadcasting facilities. * Strong supervisory and management skills: Experience supervising installation and maintenance staffs (both union and non-union) is required. * Excellent interpersonal and strong communication skills (both verbal and written) * Ability to effectively contribute both as a team member and team leader. * Proven ability to function in a fast paced deadline driven environment. * Strategic thinker and problem-solver. * Strong attention to detail with ability to organize, prioritize and manage multiple tasks within set deadlines. * Strong negotiation and decision-making skills. Technical Knowledge and Skills: * Understanding of linear and non-linear delivery, IP based, Unicast and Multicast * In depth knowledge of state-of-the-art production and post production environments, including knowledge and/or experience in the following: AVID editing systems, Nitris, SNEL switchers, Axial editing systems, Final Cut Pro, Pro-tools audio editing systems, Sony hi-definition tape equipment, DVD authoring systems. * Current with SCTE, SMPTE, CES, AES, MPEG and other related groups, as they impact broadcast, on-demand, other deliverables. * Background in satellite, compression and CA; File conversion as related to Editing, and On-Demand delivery. * Knowledge of automation, monitoring and QC. * Software development in C and Java desired. * Knowledge of and/or experience in managing digital libraries and database operations/data storage (Oracle a plus); Server and archival of large multi-terabyte systems. * Understanding of DAM and MAM processes * Understanding of IP network architectures * Reports to SVP, Engineering
