Description: Director - Strategic Client Development, Luxury and Specialty Apparel AutoReqId 106038BR Responsibilities In this role with the Merchant Services division at American Express, you will be responsible for leading a team of four client managers and a portfolio of 16 of the largest and most strategic retail merchant accounts who accept the American Express Card. You will use your strong consultative selling, marketing, partnership, and negotiation skills to maintain and grow our business by managing a portfolio of mid-scale and luxury department stores and specialty retail strategic accounts such as Saks, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Bloomingdales, Polo, JCPenney, Williams-Sonoma, Gap, Macys, and Kohls. In addition, you will be a key member and have responsibility for helping to lead and drive the American Express luxury initiative - a key priority for the organization. As a seasoned professional, you will be responsible for leading a team of client managers and be focused on establishing and building long-lasting relationships with key decision makers at these merchants through ongoing dialogue about their business, the marketplace, and the challenges they face. You will serve as a consultant and business partner using in-depth understanding of American Express products and services, the industry, and the merchant to identify and sell solutions that directly meet their business needs. You will work collaboratively with colleagues from other divisions throughout American Express to identify partnership initiatives to strengthen account relationships, improve profitability/share & resolve sensitive account issues. Required Qualifications Experience and skills necessary for success in the Director of Retail Client Management role are: . prior experience managing, coaching and leading teams . prior experience in the retail or fashion industry . proven experience building and maintaining strong relationships with external customers . prior experience negotiating partner agreements and contracts . past success networking and working with key internal peer business groups to deliver shared goals/responsibilities with your accounts . strong communication and consultative sales skills that influence and provide understanding while overcoming client objections and capitalizing on opportunities to grow American Express share . creativity and innovation along with the ability to develop and execute marketing plans . solid project management skills, and the ability to manage multiple accounts and initiatives in parallel . prior account management/sales experience where you have demonstrated the ability to influence, sell-in and implement objectives with customers . strong financial acumen is needed, including knowledge of P&L statements . true team player that is results oriented . must be comfortable with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint . ability to travel approximately 25%% Work Location State/Province New York Work Location Country United States Classification Full-Time - Regular
