This exciting opportunity has overall responsibility for developing and implementing the total sales and marketing strategy of the hotel.%%0A %%0A KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES: Direct, coordinate and oversee the management of the Sales and Marketing operations of a large (550+ room) luxury hotel to ensure the cost-effective and efficient management of its Sales and Marketing operations; as Director of Sales and Marketing, report to and collaborate with the Hotel General Manager, and function as the most senior level executive with respect to the essential Sales and Marketing operations with the help of subordinate managers; supervise and control work of managerial employees such as the Director of Conference Services; Director of Sales Protocol, Director of International Sales; Director of Corporate Sales; Director of Group Sales, Director of UK Sales, Director of Public Relations Office, and Director of Catering; direct and oversee the development of the annual marketing plan, and direct and coordinate the advertising strategy for this large luxury hotel; identify operational problems that impact the effectiveness of marketing activities and overall hotel sales performance and work with appropriate department heads on solutions; coordinate and promote quality service through daily communication and coordination with Hotel Departments, Hotel Executive Committee, and corporate/regional sales group; drive the preparation of the annual Sales and Marketing operating budget, the hotel marketing plan and business plan, and financial plans which support the overall objectives of this large luxury hotel; direct and coordinate financial and budget activities in order to fund operations, maximize investments, and increase efficiency; analyze current/potential market and sales trends and coordinate all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and increased rate; examine and analyze the costs, revenues and expenses of Hotel Sales and Marketing operations and determine areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change; review and analyze financial records pertaining to Sales and Marketing costs, sales, purchasing, and payroll operations; direct and oversee all purchasing by Hotel Sales and Marketing to ensure compliance with cost controls, quality control standards and policies of the Hotel; negotiate or approve Sales and Marketing contracts and agreements; take and/or approve personnel actions such as hiring, training, evaluating, disciplining and firing with respect to all Hotel Sales and Marketing employees; direct and oversee advertising and promotional campaigns that are effective and coherent with the Hotel's overall strategy and image; work closely with key contacts within the city to ensure constant, high-profile exposure of the hotel; in coordination with the General Manager, serve as hotel representative for media related inquiries and refer sensitive matters to the Corporate Public Relations Department if necessary; develop and approve all sales and marketing materials such as brochures, displays, and merchandising; direct and oversee the Sales and Marketing operations to ensure every action complies with Hotel guidelines; enforce the policies, procedures and standards of excellence of the Hotel InterContinental The Barclay New York; and, exercise discretionary authority over the management of the essential Sales and Marketing operations function and activities. Bachelor's degree in Hospitality or Business Administration, or the equivalent combination of education, training, or experience, plus five years of progressively responsible Sales and Marketing experience for a large (400+ room) international luxury hotel, including the following: five years of experience supervising and controlling the work of other managerial and supervisory employees; five years of experience taking and/or recommending personnel actions, including hiring, training, and disciplining employees; five years of experience directing and overseeing the development of the annual hotel marketing plan, and directing and coordinating the hotel advertising strategy; five years of experience preparing the annual Sales and Marketing operating budget and financial plans which support the overall objectives of the hotel; five years of experience analyzing current/potential market and sales trends and coordinating all activities to maintain and increase revenue and market share through added business volume and increased rate; and, five years of experience examining and analyzing the costs, revenues and expenses of Hotel Sales and Marketing operations and determining areas of potential cost reduction, program improvement, or policy change.
