Description: %%0A BusinessWeek is currently seeking a Director of Research who will manage the strategic and tactical direction of BusinessWeek Research Services (a full service custom research department). This position is responsible for identifying research sales opportunities, solution selling and project management to support the development of BusinessWeek Research Services and the overall BusinessWeek brand among advertising and non-advertising clients and prospects. This includes development, execution and analysis of primary research strategy/programs and projects for BusinessWeek ad sales as well as other BusinessWeek departments: marketing, circulation, business development, online, and editorial (when appropriate). %%0A %%0A This individual will manage BusinessWeek's syndicated research and information services functions (including circulation information, and the management of all monthly budget reports) to provide BusinessWeek ad sales with timely, actionable and accurate data to help increase ad pages and revenue. %%0A %%0A This position manages a department of six: 2 Assoc. Directors, 1 Account Executive, 1 Analyst, 2 managers.%%0A%%0A %%0A %%0A The Director meets and interacts with clients to discuss research objectives, methodologies, and research solution strategies. This position is also responsible for incorporating clients' primary research in ancillary BusinessWeek products (i.e. micro sites, advertorials, client focused marketing programs that are developed by BusinessWeek)%%0A %%0A Responsible for providing timely strategic analysis and interpretation of data in survey releases, requests from ad sales representatives, from agencies in the form of RFPs, presentations and other information requests. Other primary constituents include marketing and sales development team members with whom the Research Director works closely to provide syndicated research in marketing collateral deliverables and in client-specific presentations. %%0A %%0A The Director is responsible for coaching and training research, marketing and sales in the best ways to use research to increase BW's advertising revenues, and to make sure that BW's best sales stories are pulled from the many databases subscribed to by BusinessWeek Along with this analysis, the position also requires an ongoing long-term assessment of BW's current position in syndicated research and what potential risks/weaknesses/opportunities emerge from the data The Director also manages the training/research orientation of new salespeople, new sales assistants and marketing team members.%%0A %%0A %%0A Custom Research generates in excess of $1.5 million for the franchise.%%0A %%0A Syndicated research is the largest actual expense item in BW's overall marketing budget, and its crucial importance to ad sales has grown as competition for ad sales budgets has become keener. The Research Director's position is crucial for making sure that BusinessWeek's best research stories are unearthed and made known to all in sales, marketing and sales development.%%0A%%0A %%0A The Research Director should be a multi-talented, highly analytical research professional with extensive custom and syndicated research experience-at least 10-12 years at a media company or advertising agency-- including knowledge of consumer and b-to-b media research studies and methodologies. A college degree is required, along with a background in statistics and excellent mathematical, communications, writing and presentation development skills.%%0A %%0A %%0A ·Ability to analyze raw data to develop marketing strategies for various types of clients in different industries (i.e. technology, financial, consumer products)%%0A %%0A ·Strong understanding of marketing research principles and practices pertaining to survey/questionnaire and online panel development%%0A %%0A Experience attracting and retaining talent/managing a staff%%0A %%0A ·Knowledge of SPSS or other statistical software applications%%0A %%0A%%0A %%0A %%0A This person must have experience consulting with sales and marketing colleagues on category and account-specific selling solutions.
