Description: Job Title Director, Advanced Technology Auto req ID 682BR CBS Business Unit Showtime Networks Division/Station Showtime Networks, Inc. Department Broadcast Operations Location New York - New York Job Description Oversees new technologies and services in SNI’s channels distribution and origination including satellite, baseband and terrestrial technologies. Manages implementation of new products at NOC along with coordination of implementation of new technologies that are being considered for use. Closely work with suppliers to convey SNI requirements in product design. Work with suppliers on site during installation, integration and testing phases to ensure equipment and systems meets SNI’s requirements. Occasional travel may be needed to suppliers and customers facilities for acceptance testing and product assurance. Assists VP of Technology and Engineering in all aspects including representation of SNI’s interests with standards organizations such as SCTE, SMPTE, NAB, NCTA and others. Management of SNI test headends and uplink compression systems at NOC.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (60%%) - Testing, troubleshooting and implementing equipment at NOC for origination and transmission.

Approximately three days of the five day work week will be spent at the Showtime NOC working with SNI technicians and vendors on equipment testing and/or resolving equipment/system issues. This position is not a replacement for the technicians located at the NOC but rather a higher level resource that can direct staff efforts and assist in resolving chronic problems or other issues which require a broader knowledge base. Testing of new equipment includes that which may be utilized for enhancements to Showtime’s origination and distribution platform. Coordinate feature additions as needed to support the most efficient and best quality available on SNIs compression equipment.

(30%%) - Technology and Engineering Support

Approximately two days per week will be spent in NY office working with VP of Engineering and Technology on distribution strategy of SNI’s products including satellite, broadband and wireless technologies. Efforts will be spent on working with technology partners to communicate needs and requirements of SNI so as to support the product offerings. Additional effort will be spent working with affiliate engineers on their future distribution plans so that SNI and it’s affiliates are best aligned. Some effort will be spent on supporting new VOD technology such as H.264 and HD along with analysis of newer audio coding techniques such as Dolby-EX and AAC.

(10%%) – High Level Technical Support of Showtime MPEG2 and MPEG4 Transmission Systems.

Approximately 10%% of time will be spent working with SNIs technology partners that supply the distribution equipment used for satellite delivery of the channels. Effort will be spent on implementing updates, test new releases of hardware and software and interfacing systems for better management of devices. Representation on various committees and users groups will also be part of the overall responsibility of this position Required Skills/Experience College degree preferred. Technical certiciations by SBE, SCTE and SMPTE are a benefit but not required.

At least 5 years experience in the areas of SD and HD video origination and distribution is a requirement. Knowledge of Motorola uplink compression systems is a desired skillset. Prior experience in cable television signal distribution technology is essential.

Position requires thorough understanding content distribution and encoding systems such as MPEG2, H.264, uncompressed and various other formats used in transmission. Additionally, a good working knowledge of Internet technologies and cable system technologies such as IP distribution, switched digital video, stat muxing, cherry picking and other signal processing technologies.

The ability to communicate in a clear , concise manner along with proficiecency in technical writing skills such as test procedures, instruction manuals, configuration notes and technical diagramming, is required. Hands on experience with technical software such as Visio, AutoCAD, and Adobe PDF writer is essential.
