Serves as role model by demonstrating a commitment to Diversity, community, Wachovias core values, high performance standards, and long-range goals/vision. Aids in the development a highly skilled commercial real estate work force for the assigned Region Strives to ensure the achievement of regional, team, individual and organizational goals. Creates an environment that encourages cooperation, open communication and teamwork across the Real Estate Division and its partners. Must be an effective communicator of regional objectives, both to RED Partners and leadership to evoke changes, when needed. Fosters an environment that encourages the open exchange of ideas and the identification and resolution of potential problems. Has personal involvement in key customer relationships and credit decisions, which includes attending calls and visiting clients/sites as appropriate. Supports the leadership of the real estate division at every level. Sets the tone to foster an environment with the Line Management that encourages an open exchange of solutions-oriented ideas for addressing credit structure and potential problems. Productively incorporates knowledge of competitors in delivering credit to our customers/prospects. Provides broad functional, strategic and local guidance to help develop solutions for the underwriting/portfolio management activities in the region. Establishes and maintains a process for the timely review of deals and transactions. Establishes, communicates and reinforces the strategy for underwriting, credit tolerance for real estate risk (i.e., target product types, flexibility, measurement systems, and ever-changing strategies/processes as they relate to the specific Regions competitive environment.) Ensures timely and thorough monitoring of the loan portfolio (consultation with SAM/CRR) to provide early and accurate identification of rising risk levels. With Line Managers, ensures that prompt action is taken where needed to mitigate loss in deteriorating situations. Implement processes for adherence to policies, ensuring regulatory compliance. Assists in Banks growth and business development goals and objectives by identifying cross-sell opportunities with bank customers and prospects. Assists RED Underwriting and Asset Management Leadership in development of Team Members. In particular, focuses on developing coaching and leadership skills in Underwriting Managers and key Underwriting and Asset Management team members. Coordinates and/or participates in special projects/meetings as assigned. Assures the banks purpose statement objectives are met by relating to all internal and external customers in a timely, efficient, friendly, courteous, and personal manner. Obtains training and development to enhance job performance and meet personal objectives. Performs all job tasks in a way that embodies Wachovias Core Values. REQUIREMENTS: Undergraduate degree required, MBA preferred. Minimum of 10 years (15 years preferred) of broad experience in RE banking to include business development, credit analysis, loan approval, loan administration and a substantial leadership experience. Excellent Leadership skills, active coaching and guidance to the Line, Underwriting and Asset Management teams. Excellent interpersonal, customer relationship and communication skills. Proven ability/strength in quantitative and analytical skills, balanced with desire to meet new business development goals for bank. Demonstrated ability to make sound, independent decisions. Must be able to thoroughly analyze and assess recommendations for complex credits and/or credit relationships and offer alternative/creative solutions. Comprehensive understanding of organization, processes, all aspects of loan structuring, bank products, legal issues, financial accounting theory and logic.
