First Job Description Title: Clinical Science Manager (Clinical Liaison) Division: Global Pharmaceutical Research and Development (GPRD) Reports To: Regional Manager of CSMs Objective: The Clinical Science Manager (CSM) will advance relationships with established and emerging Regional/National opinion leaders. They will track various Gastroenterology treatment guidelines and interface with the allied health care professionals who shape them. They will be responsible for developing creative and innovative strategies for addressing the specific needs of key customers. Goals will be accomplished by the development and execution of a regional business plan in concert with appropriate internal customers. Primary Functions: - Work closely with internal customers to develop and execute a business plan designed to meet shared business objectives. - Develop tactics for communicating complex scientific information to the healthcare community. - Uncover Gastroenterology data that may have the potential for publication and/or abstract presentation. - Disseminate and convey complex medical and scientific information to professional audiences. - Provide necessary clinical support for Abbott Immunology products in prioritized managed care accounts when appropriate. - Present scientific evidence in support of customers developing guidelines and protocols. - Develop and maintain professional relationships with Key Opinion Leaders and academic centers in therapeutic areas of commercial and research interests. Provide appropriate scientific and technical support. - Develop speakers through one-on-one clinical training on approved clinical slide sets. - Act as a clinical resource with professional and advocacy organizations with the objective of developing relationships and identifying potential business opportunities. - Identify potential investigators at the request of clinical development. Identify opportunities to partner with accounts on Gastroenterology initiatives and source as applicable through Medical Affairs. - Serve as scientific resource to sales, marketing and clinical as appropriate. Assist with CME content development, medical content review and professional communication materials. - Provide support for answering unsolicited medical questions, adverse event follow through and other clinically related medical information issues. - Maintain internal KOL database through critical information data input on a consistent basis. - Perform administrative duties in a timely manner as assigned. Selection Criteria: - Strong analytical, conceptual and administrative skills. - Significant technical expertise and learning ability required to maintain pace in the market. - Exceptional communication skills both oral and written as a need to deliver comprehensive presentations to small/large groups of health care providers and internal management. - High level of sensitivity relative to the needs of patients and health care providers. - Excellent problem solving ability in concert with strong negotiation skill. - Flexibility in adapting/reacting to changing market dynamics and competitive challenges. - Tenacity and perseverance to help overcome customer resistance. - Teamwork is a mandatory requirement as it involves internal/external networking in the district, region, franchise and across division. - High sense of urgency and commitment to excellence in the successful achievement of objectives. - Excellent planning and organizational skills to demonstrate leadership and initiative. - Ability to demonstrate good business judgment. Education: Required - Doctorate Degree (PharmD, MD, PhD ) Problem Solving: - The Clinical Science Manager must be able to identify, analyze, and translate specific account needs and problems into business opportunities. These opportunities will be realized upon the development and execution of innovative solutions that satisfy both the customer and the Immunology Franchise. Accountability: - The Gastroenterology market remains dynamic and new treatment modalities and concepts are at the forefront. The Clinical Science Manager must be alert to key changes in the market by listening to providers, competitors and governmental regulators. - Successfully managing projects by meeting assigned benchmarks will be the primary measure of success. Scope of Authority : - The CSM maintains the authority to determine the most significant business opportunities within his/her respective assignment. The determination is based upon available market research data, account potential, account probability of success and input from appropriate internal customers. - The CSM also has the authority to make resource allocation recommendations as is appropriate to achieve business objectives. - The CSMs report to a Regional Manager of CSMs Skills/Experience Requirements Basic Experience: 3- 5 years of clinical experience preferred.
