General Description: Functional Title: Regional Director, LaGuardia Community College Small Business Development Center.

The LaGuardia Community College Small Business Development Center (SBDC), opened in 2001, provides free and professional one-on-one business management counseling, workshops and events for both existing and start-up businesses in areas including: business planning and formation, legal structures, marketing, financing and financial analysis, permits/licenses and international trade. The SBDC at LaGuardia also oversees programs in financial literacy education for individuals and communities covering such topics as household budgeting, credit building and repair, home ownership, relationships with financial institutions, saving and investing. Serving western Queens, the LaGuardia SBDC is part of the network of 23 regional centers in New York State supported by the Small Business Administration. Located on the campus of LaGuardia Community College, the SBDC is a component of the Centers for Economic Development in the Division for Adult & Continuing Education.

The Director of the SBDC reports to the Assitant Dean for Economic Development in the Adult & Continuing Education Division. He or she will be responsible for the leadership of the SBDC through program innovation and implementation, meeting grant requirements, direct administration, budgeting, and staff development. The Director will strengthen and expand relationships with internal and external constituencies and will help develop additional resources to sustain and expand the program. Other Duties: - The Director will be responsible for the SBDC Regional Center management, effectiveness as a provider of services to individuals and small businesses, complience (programmatically and fiscally) with requirements of funders and resource providers including the State University of New York, City University of New York, the SBA, LaGuardia Community College, and other funding sources.

- Emphasis will be placed on relationship initiation and establishment with the business community as well as with other related public and private entities to promote the center, deliver program services, and elicit funding and other support that will broaden and enhance the program.

- Specific duties entail: supervision of all staff functions and development; administration of fiscal controls; preparation and monitoring of the budget in adherence to SBDC Lead Center Office, State, Federal, LaGuardia Community College and additional funders fiscal policies, all of which are subject to internal and external audit.

- Maintain client records and insure timeliness of programs and quality of staff activities through a review of individual casework and feedback from clients.

- Identify and implement program initiatives in response to SBDC Lead Center Office, LaGuardia Community College and private sector identification.

- Establish and interface with advisory groups; conduct applied research for distribution; sponsor or co-sponsor appropriate training events, seminars and conferences.

- Collaborate with the three other Centers for Economic Development at LaGuardia Community College - Center for Corporate Education, Procurement Technical Assistance Center and NY Designs as well as other divisions in the College in order to provide services.Salary:$60,000 - $70,000 Core Competencies/Qualifications: Day-to-day management of the SBDC Regional Center requires a comprehensive knowledge of business management and practices and the capacity to optimize the utilization of staff for the purposes of counseling and training clients who are presently or prospectively engaged in small business enterprise.

Program promotion requires excellent communicative skills and the ability to interact with diverse cultural audiences of varied knowledge and expertise. It is important that the Director have the range of ability to represent the program and sponsors in settings that require professional presentations (such as press conferences, news articles and other media recorded events).

Bachelors Degree required and a minimum of 5 years experience in business operations or consulting with at least 2 years experience in a managerial capacity. Preferred that the candidate have extensive experience working, presenting and educating in diverse cultural environments and collaborating with both the private and public sector. Second language ability preferred in one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Korean or Chinese. Candidates must have a record of innovative leadership and dynamic vision of the future that will enhance the role of SBDC as a resource for individuals, businesses and communities. Candidates must have a record of accomplishment in management/administrative positions. Candidates must also have a familiarity with academic institutions and the Queens community as well as comprehensive knowledge of both business management and personal financial literacy. Grant writing and sales experience are beneficial. Position will remain open until filled.
