General Description: The Lehman College Center for School / College Collaboratives is seeking a full-time program coordinator for its Middle Grades Initiative (MGI). The position will be responsible for providing and overseeing a range of services at [three] Bronx 6th ? 12th grade public schools.

MGI is a consortium of five CUNY colleges modeled on the Universitys New York State GEAR UP 5-year grant, which ended August 31, 2005. Originated in fall 2005, MGI is a secondary school/college collaborative program that serves a cohort of 2,300 students at 12 small secondary schools across New York City (Bronx, Manhattan, and Queens). Programming is largely school-based and will include academic tutoring, advising and counseling, early college awareness, integrated arts education, and parent/family outreach. Professional development opportunities for cooperating teachers and guidance staff will also be made available through CUNY and affiliated partners.

• Supervision and implementation of all MGI programming at partner schools; • Oversight of a part-time school-based staff consisting of 4 advisors and 12-15 tutors; • Organization of college visits, career exploration opportunities, and cultural trips for students; • Coordination of academic support services (in class, after school, and some Saturdays); • Development and implementation of parent outreach activities in collaboration with the schools? assigned NYCDOE Parent Coordinator; • Promotion and coordination of summer programs for students; • Promotion of professional development initiatives for teachers and guidance staff; • Reporting and data management; • Attendance at monthly coordinators? meeting in addition to regular meetings with college and school leadership. Other Duties: As assigned by the Associate Director, Lehman Center for School / College Collaboratives.Salary:$50,000 - $53,000 commensurate with experience Core Competencies/Qualifications: • A Baccalaureate degree (Masters preferred) in education, counseling, or a related field; • At least 2-3 years experience in program management of an education, counseling, or mentoring program, preferably school based; • Ability to design, implement, and oversee education programs; • Familiarity with the NYC Department of Education middle and high school organization and curriculum; • Experience working with adolescents, preferably in a school setting; • Excellent writing and inter-personal skills; • Strong budget and data management ability; • Fluency in Spanish ideal Position will remain open until filled.
