Job Title: Recruitment, Retention & Intake Coordinator Status: Full Time (35 hours per week) Hours: Basic 10:00 ? 6:00, flexibility required Date: September 1, 2008
The person in this position is expected to assist CCF in achieving its vision and mission. Participant/fellow and prospective participant/fellow focus, delivery of service, and a willingness to assist as needed are expectations for all employees.
General Function:
The Recruitment, Retention and Intake Coordinator is primarily responsible for recruitment and intake of participants in CCFs academic programs and oversees, with the cooperation of part time staff, participant compliance and retention through academic counseling, referral, and mentor/tutor relationships. Other Duties: Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Establishes working relationships with key educational and transitional staff in prisons and jails throughout New York State including, but not limited to, Rikers Island, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk County Correctional Facilities, Bayview, Beacon, Bedford Hills, Taconic, and Albion Correctional Facilities. 2. Assures that CCFs program information is widely disseminated throughout prisons and jails in New York State. 3. Conducts frequent in-person informational and recruiting visits to prisons and jails throughout New York State including, but not limited to, Rikers Island, Westchester, Nassau and Suffolk County Correctional Facilities, Bayview, Beacon, Bedford Hills, Taconic, and Albion Correctional Facilities. 4. Reaches out to organizations throughout the New York Metropolitan area, establishes a relationship with key contacts in those organizations and conducts recruiting visits to locations in which there are potential CCF participants. 5. With the help of administrative staff and interns, schedules and processes all intake applications for potential students and works with part time Academic Counselor and Data Entry Clerk to ensure that demographic information is updated as required. 6. Works with part time Academic Counselor to assure that CCF has a relationship with a key person in every CUNY and SUNY admissions office and financial aid office, as well as those offices in other schools frequented by the CCF population such as The College of New Rochelle. 7. Works with part time Academic Counselor to assure that CCF maintains a current and viable referral resource guide in order to assist CCF participants in accessing services not currently offered by CCF. 8. Works with interns, mentor/tutor coordinator, and program coordinator to plan and execute regular community meetings. 9. Oversees all student related information and works with all part time staff to maintain paper and electronic files on students in a uniformed accessible manner. 10. Work with staff to process stipend eligibility reports, end-of term reports on grades, attendance, and retention rates using data management system. 11. Occasionally represents the organization at conferences and forums on issues of higher education in and after prison and prisoner reentry.

Requires broad knowledge of basic theories and principles, concepts and methodology of a general professional field typically acquired through completion of a Bachelors Degree in Human Services Administration, Public Administration, or related field and two years experience in direct service to a population similar to the population served by CCF. Experience in a correctional setting is highly preferred. Possession of the core competencies determined to be required at the time of hire.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities and Worker Characteristics (Core Competencies):
1. Ability to communicate effectively; ability to listen and respond to the concerns/ideas of others; 2. Ability to convey simple to somewhat complex concepts and processes to client, 3. Ability to maintain confidentiality of student records, as appropriate; 4. Ability to participate in training of moderate complexity, and, in turn, train others in new or upgraded theories, techniques, applications, practices, etc.; 5. Ability to represent the issues of CCF at the grassroots level. 6. Ability to respond calmly to emergencies and to fashion solutions to student, 7. Ability to work on a team, as well as work independently. 8. Ability to work under deadlines, with changing priorities; 9. Ability to write clearly and produce/edit accurate, well organized, and understandable reports; 10. Knowledge of criminal justice system and policies and familiarity with the major trends and strong contacts with leaders in prisoner reentry circles in New York State is highly preferred. 11.Knowledge of major computer software, or software of equivalent complexity, used in the learning/counseling environment or in technical support of the project; 12. Requires ability to be persistent in reaching out to unresponsive students. 13. Requires cultural competency. 14. Requires good communication skills. 15. Requires good written skills. 16. Requires ability to occasionally deliver services in a correctional setting 17. Requires willingness to be in the field frequently. 18. Requires willingness to work/travel evenings and weekends.
