General Description: Neighborhood Networks Centers (NNC) is a program that will provide access to computers and technology-based educational and job preparation activities to residents of all ages. This includes: Microsoft Office certificate training for adults 18 years and older seeking employment, computer training for mature adults 55 years and up, educational and life skills for teens 13 to 17 years.
NEEDED: PART TIME - Computer Instructors - Microsoft Office 2003 Trainers and Web Design PART TIME - GED Instructors - Basic Math and Reading Skills Day Program: 10:00am ? 2:00pm Evening Program: 6:00pm ? 9:00pm Sites in Brooklyn, Bronx, Manhattan & Staten Island & Queens Program Begins: Fall 2008 Other Duties: * Provides instruction in a particular field of learning to students in a group of varying sizes. Submits course outlines and samples in advance. * Utilizes personal work experience, creative accomplishments, life experience or academic training to enrich the course curricula. Utilizes traditional as well as state of the art delivery methods. Following curricula guidelines, develops instructional plans and materials; uses and incorporates prescribed materials as requested. * Conducts classes in sponsor-based work-sites or in other remote locations. * Specifies equipment and support needs well in advance; confirms schedules, room assignments and equipment availability prior to each class; takes responsibility for managing the instructional session and responds in a professional manner to all student needs/requests. * Secures equipment at the end of a session consistent with department policy and or notifies responsible personnel. * Collects session student timesheets and emails them to the program director on a daily basis; reports problems on a timely basis; Complies with department deadlines; submits attendance spread sheet on a weekly basis along with other required documentation. * Participates in sessions or staff meetings to generate ideas for program improvements. *Assumes responsibility for managing the instructional session; administers three exams during ten week session. Keeps a detailed exam data report to be submitted throughout session. Debriefs the program director and/or NYCHA staff following the completion of the program. *Performs other duties as assignedSalary:$25 - $30 per hour Core Competencies/Qualifications: Bachelors degree with (2) years of work experience in an adult education and or middle or high school environment; Masters Degree preferred but not required from an accredited institution in a field relevant to the subject and one year designing and delivering courses, preferably to diverse groups of adults, or In lieu of Masters or Bachelors degree, the appropriate individual may have a HS diploma/GED with (6) years of work experience as above. Excellent computer application skills: MS Office suite ? MOUS certified preferred for computer instructors. Excellent communication skills, be very detail oriented and have very good follow up. Ability to work well on their own and with little supervision; excellent references from previous employers will be required. Willing to travel to all sites either using public transportation or driving his/her own car. Position will remain open until filled.
