General Description: The Program Director for Educational Talent Search/Upward Bound reports to the Director of the Center for School/College Collaboratives. The Program Director oversees the work of school coordinators in recruiting, retaining, assessing, instructing, tutoring, and counseling of high school students. The PD assists in shaping of program activities and oversees on-campus Saturday programs. The program director maintains the program student database, prepares reports and monitors student attendance overall. The PD meets regularly with the principals/school coordinators to receive feedback on the program. The PD reaches out to parent organizations a the school sites and organizes and schedules parent workshops on college readiness. The PD works with SC to obtain student academic, disciplinary and attendance data. During the beginning of each project year the PD will assist SCs with interviewing, selecting and creating Personal Education Plans for new program participants. Finally the PD works to prepare program proposals for continued funding. Other Duties: The Project Director assists in arranging Saturday programming at Lehman College or at school sites; schedules special events and ceremonies; oversees the data collection and reporting process; coordinates with College Now in identifying and recruiting eligible Talent Search/Upward Bound students to enroll in college level workshops and credit courses; works with college offices (financial aid, counseling, career services, admissions, etc) to plan and implement parent workshops; identifies material and resources to be used in programming; meets regularly with school coordinators at their school sites and at the Lehman Campus; chairs regular staff meetings; and assures the confidentiality of student records and data. Works with administrator to monitor budget compliance.Salary:$50,000 - $60,000 Core Competencies/Qualifications: The Project Director will show intellectual mastery of a field of knowledge or specialty pertinent to the program as evidenced by educational attainment or teaching. The successful candidate will have the ability to relate to participants who are low-income, first- generation college students. The PD will exercise leadership in planning and implementation, administrative and personnel issues in all aspects of the program and will be able show past experience in organizing and directing the work of a team of professionals in achieving the goals and objectives of the program within deadlines and within budget. Ability to respect, support and advocate for program personnel and participants. Ability to recruit, orient, train, direct, observe, and evaluate instructional, professional, administrative and support staff. Evidence of ability to work effectively with students, parents, staff, principals, student tutors, and other program personnel; to communicate effectively - orally and in writing - with a wide variety of constituencies, one- on-one and in groups. Masters degree in related field preferred. Bilingual in Spanish preferred. Position will remain open until filled.
