General Description: The Bronx Institute GEAR-UP (BI GEAR-UP) is in the third of six years of a federally funded initiative designed to provide students enrolled in Bronx schools with academic support, early awareness and readiness for college study. The BI GEAR UP program works collaboratively with the Bronx educational regions, community based organizations, colleges, and other service providers in the planning, promotion, and delivery of services to accelerate academic achievement, improve student performance and insure successful high school graduation and admission to college. All of the program activities target the three integral constituencies essential to student success: the parents, teachers, and most importantly the students themselves. The BI GEAR UP Program Associate works under the direction of the Bronx Institutes GEAR UP Co-Directors. The Program Associate will have primary responsibility for supporting the daily activities of the GEAR UP program at schools. The associate will ensure that the program goals, objectives and strategies are met in the school, provide technical support to staff, make presentations, and assist in recruiting and training of students and tutors, work with community, business and school leaders. Program Associate will be responsible for gathering and organizing formative and summative evaluative information for all activities and assess student performance. Other Duties: Report and collaborate with administrators to identify implementation issues and opportunities for enhancements to program activities; Initiate, collaborate and maintain contacts with DOE, non- profit educational organizations, post secondary institutions; Ability to develop, implement, and assess innovative and engaging programs and services; Strong interpersonal, communication and presentation skills; Proven experience in working with parents, educators, administrators and community leaders; Flexible to travel and work evenings and weekends; Work well with limited supervision; Detail oriented, computer literate; Assist in other work as requested.Salary:45,000-50,000 Core Competencies/Qualifications: Ideal candidate will have a Bachelors Degree (Masters preferred) and a minimum of three years demonstrated experience working in education and youth development; experience with project coordination and school/community collaborations and excellent communication skills (ability to speak Spanish an advantage). Position will remain open until filled.
