Description: Post-doctoral Research Associate Department:NOAA-CREST Center Location:City Issue Date:Thursday, August 28, 2008 PVN Number:REA-719

General Description: Develop an algorithms and corresponding software to routinely produce VH data sets, products and generate their maps from GOES-R Advanced Baseline Imager (ABI) instrument measurements. The prototype of GOES- R ABI instrument will be SEVIRI instrument onboard Meteosat Second Generation (MSG) satellite. In the algorithm development both sets of spectral observations (visible (VIS), near infrared (NIR) and infrared (IR)) available from GOES-R prototype sensor (SEVIRI) and weekly AVHRR climatology will be used. In addition, use some auxiliary data will be used such as snow cover for filtering winter part of the data set, crop production for validation and calibration purposes. Salary is commensurate with experience. Other Duties: -For algorithm development get both sets of spectral observations available from GOES-R prototype sensor (SEVIRI) and weekly AVHRR climatology. - Participate in national and international Seminars. - Prepare journal and seminar papers. - Prepare Research proposals -Write progress report each month. -Supervise student in Research.Salary:$40,000 - 55,000 Core Competencies/Qualifications: Required Qualification: PhD in Remote Sensing or Experience in Remote Sensing Research with a PhD in a Related Engineering. Ability to conduct independent research. Experience with FORTRAN/Mat lab/GIS? ENVI as well as common analysis software packages.

Desired Qualification: Experience studying VH, physical meteorology, or general circulation of atmosphere. Experience with physical analysis of satellite observations.
