General Description: BEGIN Managed Programs/BE-PLUS Downtown Brooklyn OPERATIONAL HOURS: Evening hours and Saturdays Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - 5 pm to 9pm and Saturday 9 am to 3pm.

(BMP)E-PLUS Program is an evening and weekend model for low-income working adults and former Public Assistance recipients who have gained employment. Employment Plus provides services to help participants retain their current jobs and improve their prospects for upward mobility. Students participate in a comprehensive program model of education, job preparedness and counseling support. BEGIN Employment Plus offers English language instruction integrated with the students career interests. The BEGIN Computer Laboratory Instructor offers technology-based instructional activities utilizing educational software, the internet and office computer applications to support and enhance learning, helping students to acquire marketable skills for employment. Other Duties: Under the direct supervision of the Educational Coordinator, the Computer Laboratory Instructor will:

Provide basic computer literacy instruction to a student body with a wide range of familiarity and experience using computers.

Assess computer literacy of each learner using tests and task-based assessments.

Monitor student use of computers and provide individualized assistance, including development of plans based on individual student goals and knowledge.

Create curriculum with sufficient flexibility to promote individualization of instruction to multi-level students.

Consult with classroom teachers and Orientation and Assessment Teacher to provide instruction that supports and enhances classroom learning. Provide internet job search instruction and other technology-based employment readiness activities.

Develop engaging elective offerings.

Document daily activities in the computer laboratory and maintain files for each student to ensure continuity and level- appropriateness of lab activities.

Research available software and internet sites; recommend equipment and software for purchase.

Monitor condition of hardware and software; report problems to MIS staff.

Participate in ongoing professional development workshops and conferences through the BEGIN Staff Development and Training Unit as well as organizations such as the Literacy Assistance Center and DYCD.

Additional duties as assigned by the Educational Coordinator.Salary:20 Hours per week $ 30.00 an hour Core Competencies/Qualifications: BA minimum requirement with a Masters preferred in TESOL. Must have computer laboratory instructional experience including lesson development. Prior experience working with adult literacy and English language learning population in an educational setting strongly preferred. Excellent writing and oral communication skills required.
