General Description: Under the supervision of the Assistant Dean for Student Affairs, the Head Teacher & Director is responsible for supervising the operations of a (primarily) State funded childcare center available for the use of (maximum 15) children of CUNY School of Law students, faculty and staff. Other Duties: Insuring that the Center meets all applicable New York City and State laws,regulations, and ordinances as to child care operations and maintaining a safe and healthy classroom environment;Producing a quality developmental curriculum; Conducting the registration and recruitment of children for the Center each semester including responding to the inquiries of prospective and incoming parents; Supervising and assisting the Assistant Teacher in the implementation of the curriculum and in the general management of the classroom, including the observation and evaluation of all childrens growth and development as well as teaching in the Center as necessary or appropriate; Scheduling and holding parent-teacher conferences twice a year. Educating parents about the functioning of the Centers Board of Directors and coordinating the elections of student-parents to the Board; Hiring of teachers, substitutes and staff members with approval of the Child Care Center Board of Directors and evaluating and conferencing with staff individually once a year, as well as holding staff meetings and recommending training programs and conferences to facilitate staff development; Maintaining an updated medical on file each year as required by the New York Department of Health regulations;Attending monthly meetings of the Universitys Child Care Council; Maintaining and filing accurate attendance records and grant reports to ensure appropriate billing by the Business Office and funding by NYS, Federal and CUNY agencies; Assisting in the facilitation of fundraising activities; Drafting of periodic reports on the status of the Center for presentation at the Centers Board of Directors semi-annual meetings.Salary:Position pays between $39,000 and $42,000 with a liberal benefits package Core Competencies/Qualifications: A bachelors degree is required. Successful candidate will have a minimum of 3 years of progressive early childhood experience. The chosen individual will be a child-oriented educator with a child-centered philosophy and have administrative capabilities. All candidates are expected to have a New York State certification (Permanent/Provisional) in Early Childhood Up to 6th Grade. Position will remain open until filled.
