General Description: The GED Bridge to Business Careers Program, administered by the Adult Learning Center in the Division of Adult & Continuing Education, prepares adult students for the High School Equivalency Exam (GED), admission to college, and academic success in business degree programs. The instructor will develop the theme-based curriculum, prepare a course outline/syllabus, and provide up to 12 hours of weekly classroom instruction. Other Duties: Working in collaboration with LaGuardia faculty from the Business Department and the Adult Learning Center, the instructor will be responsible for determining the learning and teaching objectives for each term and developing a contextualized curricula to prepare students to pass the GED exam and succeed academically in college credit classes within the First Year Business Academy. The curriculum:

identifies the key reading and writing skills required for success on the GED, and in first-year college courses; . includes content and level appropriate instructional materials with an emphasis on original texts and primary sources (as opposed to test prep or skills books) across a variety of genres including fiction, nonfiction, memoir, poetry, newspapers, journal articles, and other sources; and . outlines classroom activities and assignments to accompany materials.

The GBBC instructor will teach two days per week (up to a maximum of 12 classroom hours) per 14 week academic semester beginning in September. Both day and evening hours are required. The instructor also maintains student attendance, conducts on-going assessment (e.g., daily records, on-going evaluation of assignments, mid-term conferences, etc), completes a final portfolio assessment, writes student evaluations, attends regular staff meetings, and proctors all standardized tests.Salary:$50.00 per instructional hour for up to 12 hours weekly plus 2 hours of paid prep time per six hours of instruction. Core Competencies/Qualifications: BA Degree and a minimum of three years classroom experience required. Masters Degree and experience working with adult students preferred. Position will remain open until filled.
