General Description: Program Description:

The School of Professional and Community Development (SPCD) provides learning opportunities to enrich the academic, social and professional development of youth and adults. Its main goal is to meet the continuing educational needs for the community. The School of Professional and Community Development seeks to improve and develop skills for career opportunities; enhance skills in preparation for promotional opportunities; provide basic skills in preparation for higher education; enhance the learning experiences of youth and young adults; and provide opportunities for youth and adults to become involved in community centers that are responsive to community needs.

The P.O.I.S.E.D. for Success program is funded by and operated in collaboration with the Family Independence Administration of the City of New York Human Resources Administration (HRA). Participation is limited to women who are receiving Family Assistance benefits and are either pregnant or have a child under two years of age. All participants must be assigned to the program by HRA. The program facilitates instruction in Adult Basic Education, Computer Literacy, Parenting and Health. There is also a job readiness component that prepares participants for the world of work.

Position Description:

The Employment Specialist is responsible for assessing participants? employability skills, job placement services and post-employment follow-up. POISED for Success is looking for a creative, self- starter who possesses strong interpersonal communication and organization skills and has the ability to motivate others in their pursuits. S/He is expected to arrive at work on time during normally scheduled work hours.

Responsibilities:

Interview and evaluate participants for job readiness.

Develop a job bank with current employment leads.

Place participants in part-time and full time employment.

Refer participants to appropriate short term training program.

Conduct job readiness and job search workshops.

Establish relationships with employers for job leads.

Maintain documentation and data of referred and placed participants.

Assist in the maintenance of job retention documentation data for submission to the Program Director.

Interface with employers and participants for post-employment follow- up.

Attend Job Fairs, staff development and training to keep current with labor market trends.

Assist in developing materials to help market the program to potential participants. Other Duties: Serve as liaison to the Director in collaborative efforts.

Other duties as assignedSalary:$35,000 ? $40,200 Core Competencies/Qualifications: At least three years of job placement experience required.

Bachelors degree in Business Administration, Education, Social Work or other related fields preferred.

Must have good communication skills, both verbal and written.

Computer literate.

Knowledge of ABE, workforce and youth development.

Must be a team player. Position will remain open until filled.
