General Description: The School of Professional Studies: CUNYs School of Professional Studies (SPS), established in 2003, offers innovative undergraduate and graduate level courses, certificates and degree programs, including CUNYs first Online Baccalaureate and the first Master Degree Programs in Applied Theatre and Disability Studies. Drawing on CUNYs nationally and internationally renowned faculty and practitioners, SPS offers programs in a wide range of disciplines. SPS is home to the Joseph S. Murphy Institute for Worker Education and Labor Studies and the Off Campus College. Each offers programs that provide educational opportunities to help working New Yorkers meet their career advancement and personal growth needs. SPSs industry and educational partners include the American Museum of Natural History, the CUNY Creative Arts Team, CUNYs John F. Kennedy, Jr. Institute for Worker Education, The School of Public Affairs at Baruch College, and the Lincoln Center Institute for Arts in Education. Other Duties: Duties and Responsibilities: Reporting to the Manager of Fiscal Operations, the Bursar is responsible for assisting with the daily activities related to the collection of tuition and fees for all SPS programs:
Responsible for overseeing and managing all aspects of student accounts receivable for SPS students. Manages all activities related to SPS accounting systems for students accounts and other financial functions as assigned.
Review all types of payments (including cash, money orders, and electronic funds transfers) collected for reporting and bank deposits. Process all types of payments against student accounts using CUNY Student Information Management System (SIMS) and other registration systems used by SPS.
Collaborate with the Manager of Fiscal Operations the planning and coordination of the billing schedules batch job processing for each term. Integrate these bursar schedules within the schools operational calendar.
Collaborate with the Manager of Fiscal Operations on enhancement and implementation of internal control over cash. Maintain revenue files and assist in collection efforts. Distribute and reconcile cash accounts for refunds and overpayments.
Interface with the functions of Financial Aid, Registrar and Student Services in implementing SPS policies and procedures. Provide staff with student account information necessary to respond to inquires regarding payments, refunds, and disbursements.
Assist in the management and disbursement of financial aid awards, including activities related to financial aid application to accounts and refund check disbursement.
Assist in the review of student accounts and the collection of funds. Identify delinquent accounts and manage the placement of those accounts with collection agencies. Independently prepare written correspondence to authorized personnel in response to inquiries and for reporting purposes.
Provide guidance to students about the payment options and online payment systems, including the Tuition Payment Plan and the Electronic Data Systems program. Assist students with inquiries regarding their accounts, verification of payments, status of refunds, and the resolution of any disputes.
Develop and implement policies and procedures relevant to the efficient operation of the Bursars area of operations, particularly in the area of students accounts. Create, maintain, and update policy and procedure manuals.
Prepare weekly, monthly and ad hoc reports on deposits for review by the Manger of Fiscal Operations.
Respond to reporting requests from the Manager of Fiscal Operations and other SPS administrators as needed.
Other duties as assigned.Salary:$48,000 - $55,000 Core Competencies/Qualifications: Qualifications: Minimum requirements for the position:
Bachelor degree or equivalent with a minimum of four years related experience.
Excellent computer skills and proficiency in computer software and accounting. Experience in student registration systems required. Experience with SIMS and/or Banner registration systems preferred.
Strong customer service orientation and personable nature. Ability to communicate effectively and act as a member of a team.
Must be energetic, well organized and patient with a blend of technical and analytical skills, initiative, and independence.
Ability to prioritize, establish and meet goals and milestones, including the ability to make judgment calls and to respond tactfully in all situations.
Ability to follow up, good with details, ability to deal with many issues concurrently.
Fluent in Microsoft Office applications and web-enabled communication. Position will remain open until filled.
