Description: Assistant Director Department:Dept. of Space Planning Location:CUNY Central Issue Date:Tuesday, May 13, 2008 PVN Number:RMP-696

General Description: The Department of Space Planning is responsible for translating instructional, research and support functions into physical facilities at the City University New Yorks 21 campuses. The department determines campus space needs and prepares physical master plans; performs space utilization studies; maintains the space inventory database of all owned and rented facilities; and works closely with the Department of Capital Budget to define the scope, schedule and cost estimates for projects to be included in the Universitys annual Capital Budget Requests. Other Duties: The Assistant Director works with the Director of Space Planning and a staff of 4 campus planners to advance the system-wide building program and capital budget request for all of the campuses of CUNY including long-range planning and programming of CUNYs capital building program, as set forth below:

? Assists in the creation and update of existing and future campus physical master plans, in accordance with their academic programs, projected student enrollments and environmental settings;

? Participates in annual system-wide capital outlay request including project scoping, scheduling and cost estimating.

? Oversees building space programming for funded projects;

? Studies and researches information available from professional publications and material from other colleges on the physical planning, development and master planning of all campuses;

? Studies and researches to develop and improve all program and building standards;

? Supervises planning staff.Salary:Commensurate with education and experience. Core Competencies/Qualifications: Must have Bachelors degree in urban/city/regional planning, architecture or related field; minimum 8 years professional planning experience, preferably in higher education with emphasis on capital outlay, and 3 years supervisory experience.

Higher education or public agency experience, graduate degree, professional registration preferable.

Statistical and analytical skills are requisite. Excellent computer skills, including word processing and spreadsheet experience (Word, Excel, Powerpoint) required; knowledge of Crystal Reports and space data systems commonly used by higher education institutions desirable.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter with ability to work independently as well as part of a team, prioritize tasks to meet deadlines, follow up, and pay attention to details. Excellent oral and written communication skills, organizational ability, interpersonal skills, professional attitude and discretion are essential. Position will remain open until filled.
