More Info United Nations Core Values: Integrity, Professionalism, Respect for Diversity Responsibilities Under the general direction of the General Foreman, Construction and Alteration Projects Unit and direct supervision of Foreman of the Carpentry Shop, Plant Engineering Section, Facilities Management Service, the incumbent is responsible for construction of high grade cabinetry, furniture, decorative woodwork, marquetry, inlays, antique restorations, installations and ordinary carpentry throughout the UN Complex and leases offsite premises; fabrication of mouldings, picture framing, and mounting maps; wall paneling; laminating, veneering plastic overlaying and grain matching; fabrication of special SGs gift boxes and repair delicate gifts and artwork; and performs other duties as may be assigned by the Foreman of the Shop. QUALIFICATIONS Education High School or equivalent diploma from Trades and Crafts School. Must have passed the UN entry-level test for Trades and Crafts given by OHRM in New York. Work Experience Several years of experience as a skilled craftsman in the trade and other related fields is required. Languages English and French are the working languages of the United Nations Secretariat. For this post, fluency in oral and written English is required; working knowledge of another official UN language is desirable. Other Skills Working knowledge of the overall trades technical language is required. Understanding and knowledge of carpentry techniques and materials is required. Proficiency in the use of all hand and power tools pertaining to the trade is required. Must be able to read and understand blueprints and rough drawings. Computer skills desirable.
