Description: Career Development Mgr Area of Interest: Legal Support Services Location: New York, NY Req #: dlap-00000795-E Description: DLA Piper, a leader in the practice of law worldwide, seeks a Career Development manager to support the Director of Professional Development in the firms career development programs for all Associates located throughout the US. This includes over 29 locations and covers more than 1500 Partners and Associates. This position will be responsible for managing the firm wide Associates Benchmarks Program, associates buddies program, and orientation in US local offices for associate attorneys. Responsibilities include the administration of these programs, developing management and evaluation tools for the programs, developing materials and delivering presentations about the programs, writing reports and budgeting for the programs, researching and reporting on market place developments in similar programs and managing the ongoing operations of such programs and their continuing improvement. This position may be filled in Washington D.C, Chicago, San Francisco, Palo Alto (CA), or NY. Travel as needed. Qualifications: A JD preferred but not required. An equivalent combination of education and experience in a professional services firm or large corporation may be substituted for degree requirement. Five years experience practicing law or teaching law preferred. Must have experience and a proven track record in counseling, coaching or mentoring professional staff. Past professional development experience a plus. Must have experience in supervising staff, working collaboratively, and enjoy being an active contributor to a highly motivated team.. Strong strategic thinking skills to assess and resolve individual and group development and training needs are critical for success in this position. Must have an understanding of law firm or professional service operations and have the ability to handle sensitive and confidential matters with discretion. Excellent project management and administration skills. Proven track record in successfully managing large projects, including developing and using project management metrics and tools.
