Description Buy-In Department - Specialist Business Overview The Buy-In department is a division within Trade Processing. The Buy-In department issues Buy-In notifications to contra brokers when they fail in their contractual obligation to deliver securities. The department subsequently seeks trade executions in the open market that are within compliance with regulatory needs. Job Description The Buy-In department interacts with all areas in operations. The Buy-In department liaises with other Broker/Dealers, Banks and Trading desks, internal and external clients. The ultimate goal in Buy-Ins is to resolve and confirm fails before they age. All Stock Loan, Stock Borrow, CNS, fail to receive and fail to deliver fails are processed in this area. Regulatory functions, such as REG SHO and NYSE filing on fails, are also processed in the Buy-In department. Opportunity Candidate will interact with Smith Barney branches, Equity Prime Broker Middle Office, multiple trading areas, external counter-parties and our clearing agents around the world. Candidate will also gain extensive knowledge of regulatory and compliance requirements of the industry, with specific focus on the newest regulatory process, REG SHO. Individual will naturally increase knowledge of the brokerage industry, including the products and different methods of settlement that drive each business. Candidate will participate in ad hoc projects, system user acceptance testing and project implementation. Candidate will have the opportunity to contribute towards focus on re-engineering and restructuring of the department, including tactical project opportunities, process automation and consolidation geared towards cost reduction and processing efficiencies.

Specifications / Qualifications * Overall brokerage operations experience a plus * Ability to multi task and work in a high paced environment * Self-starter with high energy, initiative and self motivated to advance within the firm * Ability to cultivate strong working relationship with the various trading desks, Equity Prime Broker Middle Office, and branches across the globe * Strong oral and written communication skills * Customer orientation (Internal and External) with commitment to superior quality service and experience in dealing with a variety of customers * Prior project management experience a plus * Superior computer and analytical skills
