Description: Job Title AVP - Accounting Job Function and Key Duties & Responsibilities Responsible for accounting policies and procedures, internal controls and Sarbanes-Oxley documentation, testing and compliance for all of Special Markets lines of business. Performs financial statement due diligence and analysis of both actual and projected results, and other ad hoc and recurring financial related projects. Provide guidance to Special Markets Financial on current and developing accounting guidelines from FASB, NAIC, SEC and other regulatory bodies. Ensures Special Markets accounting and reporting policies and practices remain current and in compliance. Ensures all critical accounting processes are thoroughly documented and maintained. Responsible for performing ongoing reviews and validations ensuring proper accounting policies are being followed. Coordinate with affected parties throughout Special Markets and Corporate Controllers responsible for the implementation of new accounting pronouncements. Leads the implementation in each line of business working with Accounting, Actuarial and Systems departments to ensure the most automated, controlled and effective approach is established. Coordinate Special Markets ongoing Sarbanes-Oxley control documentation, testing and certification for quarterly and annual reporting and attestation to the Board, CEO and CFO. Ensure appropriate internal controls are operating effectively and when necessary, coordinate development and implementation of process and control enhancements. Facilitate internal and external audits for all areas of Special Markets, from engagement planning through issue resolution and final reports. At direction of Special Markets CFO and/or Controller, lead special initiative projects as they arise. Recent examples of these projects include the Special Markets Embedded Value projections, working with the Office of Chief Actuary, and Project Monarch, a long-term economic impact modeling scenario working with the Office of Risk Management. Other examples of possible types of projects that could arise include new business modeling for new lines of business, assisting with Membership Association Sales Prospect financial modeling, space planning (buy vs lease) and acquisition analyses. Job Location FL - Tampa Department SPECIAL MARKETS - FINANCIAL Position Type Full Time AutoReqId 3028BR Required Qualifications .Bachelors degree in Accounting required, advanced education preferred (CPA, MBA). Excellent abilities in PC tools, including Excel, Databases (Access and EssBase), Word, PowerPoint, and experience in building, analyzing and using financial models. Superior analytical, verbal and written communication skills. Ability to multi-task and co-ordinate efforts of various resources at multiple locations - NYC, upstate NY, Austin, Tampa Position is highly independent and requires person to be able to think through affect of decisions, assumptions and modeling on work being done. Person must be able to independently evaluate, summarize and teach new accounting information to affected parties -senior management, accounting and actuarial staff. Position is the primary accountant for Special Markets Accounting Policies and Internal Controls, both areas which are of critical importance to the proper accounting and reporting of the results of the Company, and of safeguarding the assets and reputation of the Company. Position has indirect responsibility and involvement with leading the Financial and Actuarial teams in all of Special Markets. No direct reports are designed for this position currently. Daily interaction and communication with Special Markets CFO, Controller, senior managers in financial and actuarial departments, and frequent interaction with VP of Accounting Policy in Corporate Controllers. VP in Corporate Controllers for Sarbanes Oxley work. Position will also be primary point of contact in interactions with Internal and External Auditors for all areas of Special Markets. .Minimum of 13 years experience. Life Insurance accounting and reporting experience required, including experience in interacting and working with actuaries. Internal or External Auditing experience required (4 or more years preferred). Project management experience
