Description: Assoc Designer Loft Dresses Full Time Regular posted 02/11/2008 New York, NY Requirements The Associate Designer for dresses is responsible for a variable amount of design, development and selection of materials, silhouettes, colors and patterns for a specific classification or area. Assists in fabric research and development and fabricates basic core items seeing garments through to production. Embodies the companys Values & Practices by maintaining effective collaborative relationships, taking pride in the company and brand, embracing diversity in all facets of the position and representing a hunger for knowledge and responsibility. Previous dress experience preferred. Primary Responsibilities/Accountabilities: -Assists in identifying seasonal fashion direction, assortment opportunities and merchandise trends for area of responsibility. -Serves as liaison between Design, Product Development and Technical Design and Merchandising to ensure information flow is accurate throughout the development process. -Responsible for technical package process, to include drawings, measurements and design detail specifications and hands off to Product Development. -Maintains thorough knowledge of the line (silhouettes, yarns/fabrics and design details) and is responsible for tracking changes/additions. -Maintains design archives library. -In Designers absence, conducts fit sessions (first through fourth fits) and keeps supervisor informed. -Responsible for coordinating all changes from Line Review and communicates to Cross-Functional Team at Line Review recap. -Maintains specification sheets, trim sheets and pitch sheets. -Participates in concept review and line building recaps, in addition to line review. -Assists in the making Design Presentation Boards. Researches competitive market and presents results and deductions to Designer. People Management: -Builds collaborative relationships with vendors and internal clients -Interfaces professionally and works effectively in group settings -Mentors, coaches and counsels direct reports on performance expectations (when applicable). Position Requirements: -Bachelors or Associates Degree, or equivalent, in Design with 1 - 4 years experience as an Assistant Designer -Creative and innovative design ability tailored to Ann Taylor brand and client -Generates design ideas -Strong sketching and illustration ability -Knowledge of design specifications, i.e., draping, pattern making and CAD software -Strong fashion, color and print sense -Ability to build collaborative relationships across departments and divisions -Strong communication and presentation skills -Highly organized and has capacity to anticipate change -Executes to timelines and provides timely solutions -Proficient in Microsoft Office Application
