Description: Area Scientific Director - Oncology



The Area Scientific Director oversees the Oncology Regional Scientific Manager/Associate Directors and functions as a scientific/medical resource to the Oncology Business Unit. In this role you will oversee the following functions that the Regional Scientific Managers perform: the RSM/AD will implement medical/scientific and clinical supportive strategies and tactics for designated targeted customers/clinical investigators and will tailor scientific product support information to meet the needs of the local medical community in support of national product strategies; the RSM/AD will function as a regional medical/scientific resource and work to pair our key customers needs with available company resources as well as provide them with all of the necessary scientific information they may need to make the best decisions possible regarding the appropriate use of our products; the RSM/AD will bring forth recommendations for site placement of clinical trials (phase III-IV) and will then conduct a variety of programs to increase awareness of the trials and to enhance patient accrual into trials. They also will work with physicians regarding IIRP proposals; the RSM/AD will be responsible for local hospital formulary presentation activities and for speaker/advocate development. They also are responsible for providing the latest emerging data in response to specific healthcare professional inquiries; the RSM/AD, under the guidance of the Director, Scientific Operations, will ensure the appropriate dissemination of clinical information, knowledge and services in a timely, ethical and customer-focused manner; and the RSM/AD will be responsible for establishing, developing and maintaining relationships with influential members of the Oncology community within a geographic region. Qualifications include: an advanced scientific degree (MD, PhD, or PharmD preferred) or oncology nurse credentials required; a minimum of 7 years Oncology experience with a strong current working knowledge of Oncology; previous pharmaceutical industry experience preferred; knowledge of treatment guidelines, clinical research processes, customer strategies, and FDA promotional guidelines, regulations, and ethical guidelines applied to the pharmaceutical industry; excellent interpersonal communication and presentation skills required to present critical medical and scientific information and to positively influence external customers, medical thought-leaders, academic institutions and managed care communities; the ability to network and positively influence important regional customers, including thought leaders, group practices, medical directors, and pharmacy directors; the ability to prioritize and work effectively in a constantly changing environment. Must be a strong team player and effectively interface cross-functionally with Sales, Business Relations, and ICRO; direct experience in this type of customer interaction role would be a strong asset. The RSM/AD position is associated with approximately 60%% travel. This is a home office based position within a designated territory. Working knowledge of the entire Microsoft Office Suite (Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Access), Lotus Notes, and associated hardware preferred. Area Director positions are available in the following locations: North East (Boston, NYC, Philadelphia, Baltimore/DC); South East ( Atlanta, Charlotte, Tampa, Memphis); and West ( Southern CA, San Francisco, Phoenix)
