Cooper Crouse-Hinds is seeking an Area Sales Manager for our Northeast location. SUMMARY OF POSITION:
Responsible for sales operations in assigned geographical territories. Manages, directs, and coordinates all sales plans, programs, and convention / trade show activities. Recommends and establishes sales promotions, contests, and incentive programs for product line or sales channel selling. Oversees development of new accounts and servicing of existing accounts. Maintains contact database (ACT!). Develops and executes sales plans and goals designed to increase sales, profits, and market share meeting all company goals and directives, while minimizing expenses. Ensures that professional business relations exist with customers and that their needs are continuously being met. Directs, trains, and appraises agents and distributors according to company policies, procedures and product lines.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND BASIC DUTIES 1. Assumes responsibility for the planning, development, and implementation of effective area sales programs and policies. · Assists senior management with long and short term area sales strategies. · Ensures that area sales plans complement and support established company-wide goals. · Develops and implements area sales plans, programs, policies, and goals. · Forecasts profit and volume growth. · Assists in preparing and maintaining area sales budget. · Travel commensurate with assigned responsibilities and territory management approximately 50%%.
2. Assumes responsibility for the effective performance of area sales activities. · Conducts regular reviews of sales activities and effectiveness. Provides recommendations regarding improvements in sales, service, delivery and customer service effectiveness. · Oversees and manages all area sales functions, including assigning sales territories customer accounts to Sales Representatives (If required). · Researches and evaluates current and potential markets for sales opportunities and develops recommendations. · Assists in market strategies and goals for Company products and services related to the area sales environment. · Ensures that existing accounts are serviced in accordance with Company standards and policies. · Makes sales presentations to major accounts as necessary. Ensures sales process is professional and effective. · Coordinates technical and sales support as needed. · Assists and oversees technical or product training as needed. · Coordinates corporate convention sales and presentations. · Ensures area sales goals are met or exceeded.
3. Assumes responsibility for the effective coordination, communication, and reporting of district sales functions. · Ensures that area sales functions are well coordinated with related departments and that open communication among personnel exists. · Manages and oversees sales expenses. Ensures that spending complements operating plans, profit commitments, and anticipated changes in the business environment. · Completes required reports, records, and documents. Prepares periodic sales reports and business plans as required by Sales Department and Senior Management. · Keeps management informed of area activities, progress toward established goals, and of any significant issues. · Attends and participates in meetings and committees as required.
4. Effectively supervises (if required) district sales force, ensuring optimal performance. · Provides leadership to sales personnel through effective objective setting, delegation, and communication. Conducts sales meetings as required. Directs, schedules, and coordinates area sales functions. · Sets up and trains the sales force. Provides regular instruction regarding policy, procedure, and program changes. · Ensures that the sales force levels are appropriate and effectively utilized. Conducts interviews and assists with hiring Sales Representatives as needed. · Sets performance standards for sales personnel. Provides suggestions to improve effectiveness. · Conducts performance appraisals as required. Formulates and implements corrective actions as needed. Recommends changes in status of personnel, including promotions, transfers, and salary adjustments. · Assists and supports Sales Representatives as needed.
5. Assumes responsibility for establishing and maintaining professional business relations with customers, distributors, and trade contacts. · Ensures that requests, needs, and questions are promptly resolved. Ensures that customers are informed of Company products, programs, and promotions. · Monitors service and delivery and ensures excellence in service levels. · Represents the Company at trade functions. Follows-up on all notices for action and new account opportunities.
6. Assumes responsibility for related duties as required or assigned. · Maintains awareness of the Company’s competitive position, industry trends, and the changing business environment. · Completes special projects as required. · Handles any miscellaneous duties as required and approved by senior management.
PERFORMANCE MEASUREMENTS · Monthly, quarterly, and yearly sales and profit goals for the area are met or exceeded. · Sales forecasts, plans, and programs are appropriate and effective. Sales objectives are executed in accordance with approved policies. · Current customer accounts are maintained and expanded. Additional customer accounts are developed. Good business relationships exist with customers and their requirements are met. · Sales personnel are well trained and effective (if required). Assistance and support are provided as needed. · Management is appropriately informed of sales activities and of any significant concerns. Reports are complete, accurate, and timely. · Good working relations, communication, and coordination exist with all related Inter-company departments. Assistance and information are provided as needed. · Define, pursue and execute MD&P (Management, Development and Planning Program).
