Lehman Brothers Private Equity: Private Fund Investments Third year analyst position 2009- New York Position: Analyst in Private Fund Investments Group, a rapidly growing group within Private Equity, with over $10 billion of investor commitments Group Overview: The Private Fund Investments Group manages three investment strategies: * Co-Investment Fund: Invest directly in companies alongside premier financial sponsors * Secondary Fund: Buy private equity limited partnership interests from motivated sellers * Private Equity Fund of Funds: Invest in private equity funds including leveraged buyout, venture capital, distressed, and special situations The Private Fund Investments Group is a rapidly growing area of Lehman Brothers, having grown from $2 billion of committed capital at the end of 2003 to over $10 billion of commitments today. The group has recently raised and is actively investing over $7 billion of capital, including a $1.6 billion Co-Investment Fund, $1.8 billion Secondary Fund II, a $1.5 billion Fund of Funds, a $540 million publicly traded fund of funds and over $1.5 billion in separate accounts. In 2008, the group expects to raise an additional $5 billion in new funds. In addition, the group is actively developing other private equity-related fund strategies and products. The group has offices in New York, Dallas, London and Hong Kong. Responsibilities: The Analyst position provides a unique experience due to the broad exposure to all three investment strategies and significant role an Analyst plays in a typical 3-person deal team. Key responsibilities include: * Conduct due diligence on co-investment, secondary and primary opportunities * Valuation and financial analysis of private companies and private equity portfolios * Formulate opinion on investment opportunities; prepare screening and investment committee memos and due diligence materials for the investment committee * Meet regularly with partners of premier private equity firms * Monitor investments through attending annual meetings, evaluating positions in public securities and attending board calls * Special projects, including product innovation, asset allocation analysis, fund marketing and communications * Interaction with many different parts of the firm to gather information necessary to make investment decisions in the various asset classes Qualifications: * Experience in private equity or investment banking * Completion of 1or 2 year analyst program or equivalent * Strong quantitative abilities; excellent valuation, corporate finance and accounting skills * Creativity in approach to problem solving * Strong judgment and critical thinking skills; strong research skills; strong writing skills * Ability to multi-task with a fine-tuned attention to detail * Ability to take on significant responsibility, given small team structure * Team player and a desire to work on a wide range of projects
