Description: Computer Forensic Field Engineer is primarily responsible for on-site data capture in a wide variety of dynamic environments and maintaining the integrity of the capture using established processes and procedures such as chain of custody. This position has secondary responsibilities which includes supporting lab operations and research and development activities. A significant component of this position is that the CF Field Engineer must function efficiently and professionally in all type of environments, including hostile-capture and high-energy environments. CF Field Engineers must be able to make sound process decisions with little forewarning and in light of changing project dynamics, and not be distracted by environmental elements. CF Field Engineers must have sufficient technical expertise to troubleshoot and solve a wide variety of unanticipated technical issues and therefore must have a wide breadth and depth in knowledge of technical systems including hardware and software knowledge. This position operates under minimal supervision and has latitude in decision making responsibility. Required Business Travel Requirements: 50-90%% business travel may be required to conduct on-site data collections, depositions, testimony preparation and appearances in court. On-site data collections can be conducted at any hour, on any day or night, and for several hours at a time. Some data collections may span multiple days. Some onsite data collections may involve law enforcement agencies at a “hostile” (defendants) site. May includes both domestic and international travel. This position does not have a traditional Monday-Friday work schedule. Work schedules will be established on a case-by-case basis but are likely to deviate due to travel requirements. Work may be performed at any time with minimal notice, including weekends and holidays and may be performed on any shift.
Responsibilities: * Provide professional, efficient and effective on-site data capture services for customers following departmental guidelines, accepted protocols, processes, and Chain of Custody. * Provide effective, accurate and professional communication with customers through all forms of communication including direct contact, voice, email, fax, etc. * Provide effective testing and validation of computer forensics hardware and software. Follow established computer forensic protocol and processes and apply them to enhance R&D/Test capabilities of the CF group. * Provide effective research and development solutions for the computer forensics operations group for both lab and field operations.
Qualifications * Minimum of 1 year hands-on experience in a technical IT environment working with server and/or network setup; troubleshooting experience * Basic hands-on familiarity with computer hardware * Intermediate understanding of network systems * Advanced communication skills * Advanced problem-solving skills * Good report-writing skills * LAN support, troubleshooting, auditing, security risks * Administration of Windows based systems and networks * Basic administration of non-Windows based systems and networks (Linux/Netware) * Basic experience with e-mail based systems Education: Bachelors degree from a four-year college or university in a related field, or a technical school certificate in information technology or related areas, or 3+ yrs. relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and experience.
