An outstanding scientist is needed to serve as a lab head within the in vivo atherosclerosis or hypertension research group in the Department of Cardiovascular Diseases. The individual will supervise 1-3 technical level scientists and interact with multidisciplinary teams(s) consisting of molecular biologists, biochemists, physiologists, pharmacologists and medicinal chemists.

Qualifications Desired 1. Familiarity and experience with systems physiology and pharmacology which relates to the pathogenesis of dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis or hypertension. 2. Background in aspects of integrative physiology or in vivo pharmacology is essential with a preferred emphasis on expertise in conducting animal studies to investigate the regulation of lipid biology or intermediary metabolism or blood pressure regulation. A working knowledge of biochemistry and molecular biology is also desirable. 3. A PhD degree with a minimum of two years of postdoctoral research experience in an academic institution or in the biotech. or pharmaceutical industries. 4. An exceptional publication record and excellent spoken and written English communication skills are essential, as are strong interpersonal skills. Education Requirement 1. Establishment and validation of new rodent or large animal models of dyslipidemia and atherosclerosis or blood pressure regulation. Conducting in vivo mechanistic studies and the assessment of novel compounds using in vivo animal trials for selected anti-lipid or hypertension targets. 2. Target validation and proof-of-concept studies using both in vitro and in vivo systems. 3. Coordination and prioritization of drug discovery efforts in support of program objectives. 4. Serve as the in vivo representative on program teams. Be an active participant in overall scientific direction of program(s) with input into component aspects that include molecular biology, biochemistry, medicinal chemistry, drug metabolism, bioinformatics, and gene array techniques. 5. Data analyses and interpretation. 6. Frequent presentations at senior level research strategy meetings.
