The Project Leader has primary functional accountability within Chemical Process Development and Commercialization (CPDC) for oversight and direction on all aspects of process development and optimization for multiple assigned development compounds, as well as integration of drug supply and process optimization plans with overall project timelines and deliverables. Project accountability can range from early-stage clinical support, through late stage clinical development, process validation, and initial market launch. Position requires identification and prioritization of project needs and risks, while seamlessly integrating Organizational Effectiveness principles. The project leader is comfortable with the identification and incorporation of novel process technologies. The successful applicant will be capable of influencing opinion and sharing process development and scale-up best practices through effective presentations to internal and external audiences. With oversight from a CPDC Director, the Project Leader independently leads and manages a small group of technical professionals as direct reports and uses his/her expertise and capability to influence ,coach and motivate those around him/her on technical and leadership elements. He or she must have strong interpersonal skills and a sharp customer focus to integrate group activities with partners, including Early Development, Supply, and potential external collaborations. Exhibits competency in all Merck leadership behaviors and embraces Global Pharmaceutical Commercialization (GPC) cultural principles.

Qualifications Required -The position requires advanced technical knowledge in API process development as well as sound knowledge of related fields in pharmaceutical product development. The incumbent must also be familiar with the Company’s technologies, products, and programs. Good communication, interpersonal and supervisory skills are also needed to collaborate on and direct the work of others on major assigned projects. Education Requirements: The position requires a Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university and 3 or more years relevant work experience in API process development, or B.S. and/or M.S. in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university and 7 or more years of relevant work experience in API process development.
