Description Position Description The position manages a territory to sell in assigned markets to increase revenue and achieve territorial, Divisional, and Company goals. This is a significant responsibility which encompasses the following major components: selling educational materials, locating potential authors and reviewers, reporting information necessary for the successful operation of Cengage Learning, South-Western School Publishing. Essential Duties and responsibilities 1. Develops Territory profiles and implement Strategic Action Plans to maximize customer contact, secure adoptions, and identify market share and market potential. 2. Utilizes designated procedures, planning tools, and product information develop by Thomson Learning, SWP&E School Publishing. 3. Complete required reports identifying individual customer needs for sample copies and service items, faculty assignments, educational and market trends and innovations, enrollments, and sales opportunities. 4. Make day-to-day sales calls leading to adoption opportunities. 5. Acquire necessary knowledge of our products and markets and keeps his/her sales tools and materials up-to-date to effectively sell our products. 6. Attend local, regional, and national educational meetings held within assigned territory and within region as assigned. 7. Attend sales conferences, seminars, and training sessions as assigned. 8. Participates, with approval, at conventions and professional meetings throughout the year to exhibit Thomson Learning, SWP&E School Publishing. 9. Cooperates with publishers, acquisition editors, marketing managers, developmental editors and managers in market research, author search and manuscript acquisitions activity in this market and submits appropriate reports. 10. Resource for new product information and product positioning strategies unique to territory. 11. Makes formal sales and marketing presentations as appropriate. 12. Manage programs tracking competitive products, prices, and selling strategies and develop resulting analyses. 13. Develop and submit territory sales forecast reports and market projections 14. Develop and implement workshop selling programs as appropriate. 15. Complete weekly activity report, weekly expenses report, and monthly activity report as directed and submit by given deadlines. 16. Coordinate activities for all Thomson Learning, SWP&E School Publishing School speakers invited into territory. Assist as assigned with speakers in region. 17. Assist Regional Manager with securing qualified sales applicants in compliance with Company Affirmative Action Program. 18. Assist national and regional sales management teams as directed. 19. Develop and implement strategic sales campaigns with appropriate selling strategies. Knowledge, Skills and Experience A Bachelors degree or Master’s degree with preferred major in Business or other areas related to publishing mission. Selling experience preferred. Previous publishing experience a plus. Good command of the English language required. Appearance, sales personality, and physical stamina appropriate for those who must travel and meet customers in a sales/service relationship on a daily basis. Proficient in the use of word processing and spreadsheet applications. TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT: Laptop computer, telephone, calculator, automobile.
