Description: Major NEW JERSEY firm is seeking a UNIX Systems Administration for their Hudson County NJ facility. The successful candidate will be responsible for mid to high level administration of this UNIX site; including system installation, configuration, troubleshooting, fundamentals of security and installation of third party software.



Responsibilities will include:


* Installing, configuring and optimizing the UNIX operating systems and applications.


* Monitoring Production Servers and Trading Systems and responding to and resolving critical issues.


* Providing 1st and 2nd tier support for corporate systems and user applications including participating in Shift Desk/Operations support, monitoring and escalation.


* Supporting and implementing system standards, processes and security.


* Maintain updates and audit system documentation.


* Add and maintain users on the network and assigning application access.


* Analyzes project needs or requirements and recommends systems.


* Maintains and communicates project plans.


* Data Center/Facilities work which includes but not limited to Running Fiber/CAT6 cabling, Racking Servers, and Installing Data Cabinets, etc.



Requirements:


* A minimum of four years UNIX Administration experience.


* Extensive knowledge in the UNIX operating system


* Knowledge of scripting (Perl, shell, korn) a plus.


* Exposure to paging and swapping, monitoring CPU/Disk Space thresholds, inter-process communication, devices and what device drivers do, file system concepts ("inode", "superblock").


* Familiarity with fundamental networking/distributed computing environment concepts; can configure NFS and NIS, can use nslookup or dig to check information in the DNS, understanding of basic routing concepts.


* Experience with network security (for example, building firewalls, deploying authentication systems, or applying cryptography to network applications.


* Knowledge of host security (for example, passwords, uids/gids, file permissions, file system integrity, use of security packages).


* Experience with more than one UNIX based operating systems a plus.


* Experience with non-UNIX operating systems.


* Experience with inter-networking UNIX and other operation systems.


* Strong analytical and problem solving skills, flexibility and open-mindedness.


* Storage area network (SAN) configuration experience a plus.
