Description The responsibility of Cash Equities-IT is to provide valuable and cost-effective IT solutions to the Cash Equities business globally. TAS, within Equities IT, develops and supports all the applications used by Securities Operations, globally, to confirm and settle over 30 million trades. Topcat performs P&S, core back office, regulatory and other functions including aggregation, within the equities space of TAS and processes 3 million equities trades daily, of which 1.5 million are street-facing. During 2007-8 Topcat will undergo a technology transformation from a database-centric batch oriented Client/Server system to a memory-centric, distributed N-tier, realtime system using Java and a mix of in-house, commercial and open source frameworks. Topcat management and staff will retool during this period and will be greatly assisted by the permanent addition of a senior back-end Developer as described above Responsibilities will include: * Perform Java development that operates on cached memory objects; * Perform Hibernate mapping of Java POJOs to Sybase database tables; * Develop Sybase stored procedures; * Assist capacity planning; * Assist DB model and object model * Perform Linux and Solaris shell scripting including use of utilities such as awk and sed; * Develop Release and integration scripts; * Design software components based on target architecture, understanding of data model, understanding of business model and concern for reusability; * Assist object-oriented design and analysis * Conduct code review with developers. * Troubleshoot/debug production environment as needed Candidates profile: * The candidates will be IT professionals with current experience of financial services business processes and systems architecture; * Substantial experience as Java developer in financial services; * Superior understanding of Sybase plans, indices and navigation; * Working familiarity with in-memory caches such as Tangosol, GigaSpaces, TerraCotta or similar; * Superior communication skills; * Ability to operate at all levels within the organization; * Substantial familiarity of the trade lifecycle; * Deep knowledge in object-oriented analysis & design; * Familiar with modern, iterative software design processes like the Unified Process * Proficient in design patterns, UML and Spring & Hibernate frameworks. * DBA experience a plus; familiarity with Sybase 15 a plus; Technical Expertise * Frameworks: Spring, Hibernate * Language: Java * Messaging: MQ Series, JMS * Scripting: shell/Perl * SQL: Sybase * OS: Linux, Solaris * Integration: Cron, Autosys, Clearcase It starts with you If you are attracted to joining an organization where every individual’s contribution counts and where your talent will impact on our future, please apply for this position.
