Description: POSITION SUMMARY: The Certified Nursing Assistant/Specialist performs various resident care activities and related nonprofessional services essential to caring for personal needs and comfort of residents. All duties and tasks are delegated by and performed under the direction of a licensed nurse and may not exceed Standards of Practice as accorded by Certification.
RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
1. Handles and serves residents in a manner conducive to their safety and comfort, adhering to instructions issued by a licensed nurse to establish shift routines.
2. Performs duties in accordance with established methods and techniques and in conformance with recognized standards.
3. Provides maximum resident care services within limits defined by delegated tasks.
4. Assumes responsibility for varied resident care duties as assigned by a licensed nurse to include admitting, discharging, transferring and caring for the residents personal belongings and assisting the licensed nurse in performing resident treatments.
5. Assists the licensed nurse during the resident admission assessment.
6. Verifies that all residents have wrist bands, bed, and door tags.
7. Participates in the formulation and follow through of the residents nursing care plan.
8. Uses Standard Precautions when caring for all residents. Adheres to Contact and/or Droplet Precautions, as indicated by resident condition.
9. Bathes the resident in bed, tub or shower, combs hair, cleans and cuts fingernails and gives shampoos.
10. Positions residents in correct body alignment in and out of bed and applies safety measures under the direction of the licensed nurse.
11. Assists residents in and out of bed, in walking and transports residents throughout a Center via wheelchair, geri-chair, or stretcher.
12. Coordinates scheduling for residents requiring O.T., P.T., S.T., to assure that they are available for the therapist on a timely basis.
13. Takes and records weights, blood pressures, temperatures, pulse and respirations.
14. Gives various skin care treatments, as permitted by state regulation.
15. Applies simple clean dressings, slings, stockings, and support bandages, under direction of the licensed nurse, as permitted by state regulation.
16. Feeds residents, assists all residents with their meals and provides in between meal nourishment, as well as providing fresh ice and water to the residents bedside.
17. Completes record of residents oral intake and output.
18. Provides direct care to the more acutely ill residents on the nursing unit/
19. Reports any/all changes in residents condition, any family concerns and residents complaints to a licensed nurse.
20. Accompanies residents when transported outside Center for appointments as needed.
21. Answers residents call light or bell, delivers messages, administers bedpans and urinals, cleans areas of spillage or accidents caused by the resident.
22. Makes both occupied and unoccupied beds.
23. Collects and bags soiled linen and delivers to dirty linen area; if assigned, washes and dries items in domestic washer/drier.
24. Obtains clean linens and supplies from supply areas as directed, cleans utility rooms, kitchen areas and all other nursing areas, as assigned.
25. Cleans resident equipment.
26. Receives and escorts visitors, collects charts, records and reports.
27. Transfers residents belongings and equipment as directed, and assists with postmortem care.
28. Participates in the orientation of new nursing assistants.
29. Puts Resident Service First: Ensures that residents and families receive the highest quality of service in a caring and compassionate atmosphere which recognizes the individual
