Description: Title: Sr. Staff Engineer - RF Design/Test Location: NJ, Clifton Req Number: itti-00006738 Position Description: This position will be responsible for leading the design and development of RF Test equipment and production testing of high frequency transmitters, solid-state power amplifiers and receivers used in space satellite applications. Will generate test plans and procedures and schedule and lead test design, development, and production projects teams. This position will work directly with design engineering during product design and lead test team through design verification, qualification, radiation and acceptance testing of flight hardware. Knowledge of roust design and test as well as fault analysis. General Summary and Basic Function: Provides advanced engineering as a technical expert in solving highly complex problems in area of specialization or product or design development to a wide range of products, projects or programs to the Space Systems Divisions Engineering business unit.
Scope and Principal Duties: Provides advanced technical engineering expertise on complex technical problems in a broad field of engineering, research and development for highly complex and technical space-based aerospace products. Uses the application of engineering standards, principles, theories, concepts and techniques which are highly innovative and ingenious. Designs, develops, tests and verifies complex engineering in electrical, mechanical, optical, software, systems, and/or hardware components. Work will encompass a wide range of sophisticated (cross-discipline) engineering problem resolutions. The role involves design and development engineering assignments related to products and systems including the engineering of new products or updates to existing products.
Job Specifications and Work Performed: Creates, develops and designs complex and difficult mechanisms, systems and equipment which require a broad knowledge of several fields and an extensive knowledge of own specialty. Leads and Directs design teams to determine the qualification and manufacturability of new technologies. May function as organization spokesperson on advanced projects or programs as the engineering expert or authority. Determines and pursues courses of action necessary to obtain desired results. May lead R&D project or program team. Develops and maintains plans, schedules and budgets for assigned projects. Prepares for periodic management reviews as required to give management visibility on the status and progress of assigned projects. Prepares theoretical studies of involved technical subjects that find wide application to design problems or that are required where previous methods and techniques have not produced satisfactory results. Studies the basic design ideas and methods of approach proposed by other engineering personnel: consults available technical data, analyzes previous design, utilizes specialized knowledge, and proposes improvements or modifications to the basic design ideas and layouts which would be more effective and involve less risk. Confers with Sr. Management, engineering personnel and customer representatives to assure proper consideration of customer requirements. Collaborates with other engineers in order to assure proper compromise on the best theoretical design in the interest of basic and practical considerations. Develops methods and techniques to be used for standardization of approach to specific design problems. Prepares technical descriptions of basic designs, and engineering estimates for inclusion in bids and proposals or presentations to customers. Represents the organization as a prime technical contact on contracts, projects or products. Analyzes engineering plans and projects to establish operating data and conducts experimental tests; analyzes proposals and related technical data to develop design alternatives. Plans design layouts in order to study the operation, select major components, assure conformance to functional and operating requirements, and determine the optimum location and arrangement from an engineering, manufacturing and maintainability standpoint. Investigates problem areas and initiates corrective measures relating to the interpretation of technical data and the functioning of equipment during prototype construction or manufacturing phases and field installation. Prepares progress reports relating to assignments as required. Confers with vendors to discuss physical and performance characteristics of proposed parts, components, and equipment for application to assigned equipment. Prepares specifications and design parameters for equipment to be designed and/or built by subcontractors. Maintains technical competence and state-of-the-art expertise in areas of technical specialization. This is accomplished by reviewing technical publications and books, attending technical seminars and Company training, and taking academic courses. Maintains engineering notebooks in department approved repository for work products in accordance with established policy and procedures. Keeps abreast of the state-of-the-art by reading technical journals and publications. Experience Requirements: Requires B.S. degree, preferably in Engineering or in a technical area of science and research with 10-15 years work experience or a MS degree with 8+ years work experience, or a PhD with 5+ years work experience. A minimum of 8 years of test engineering with at least 3 years in RF field required. Experience should include radiation testing of high frequency transmitters, and receivers used in satellites applications. Strong computer skills with MS office experience required. Aerospace applications highly desired. Experience in software such as C, LabView or Visual Basic programming a plus. Position requires active Secret clearance or above. (US Citizen) Working Condition: General office environment, laboratory, manufacturing area, or research areas requiring the ability to stand or site for long periods of time. Personal protective equipment maybe required to be used. Position requires the ability to work with computers and lift up to 25 pounds. Security Clearance: This position may require the passing of both a background investigation and polygraph to achieve a variety of compartmented national security clearances. The individual holding this position must be a U. S. Citizen.
