Namaste,

I'm sending this to show how duplicitous some so-called
spiritual organizations can be when it comes to helping the
poor. We have heard many times before about various
organizations that get tons of money to help serve the
poor, when in many cases they are mostly engaged in
increasing their number of converts. But are the converts
really treated any better? In many cases they are not.

For the last lift of 2007, it'll be the flat bench press. I'll likely
do my customary lateral raises and biceps work as well.

After a quick shower and a little one-hour nap, I plan on some light
jogging, maybe in Central Park, or maybe I'll schlepp myself over to
Prospect Park.

My immediate plans for next year -- which is to say, Wednesday:

Register for a yoga class.

Once my flexibility is adequately improved -- and hopefully my lower
back greatly healed as a result along the way -- I will look into the
adult gymnastics program over at Chelsea Piers. (Any idea why an hour
of one-on-one instruction is $80 for an hour of one-on-two [shared or
semi-private] instruction is $110???)

I will still keep up with the powerlifting and bodybuilding, as well
as the running so as to do a half-marathon in the fall, but yoga and
adult gymnastics are my two newest babies and will have to get most of
my attention for the foreseeable future.

So much to do, so little time available -- sigh!

Okay...Is There A Yoga Book, Website, Magazine....

Author: Prisoner at War

Anything about yoga that ***DOESN'T*** get into New Agey mystic
stuff????

I'm looking for an intro to yoga, mainly its physical fitness aspects,
but you know, I feel like a homeless person showing up at a soup
kitchen only to be inundated by a sermon on Christianity and how Jesus
loves everyone, blah blah blah!!

Is there a yoga book, website, magazine -- whatever -- that doesn't go
into all kinds of mumbo-jumbo? Is there a *secular* work on yoga and
the physical fitness aspects of its practice? Is the Theosophical
Society and their ilk the only ones putting out yoga material??

I mean, one can learn the Pythagorean Theorem without being a
Pythagorean, and you don't have to use chopsticks to eat Chinese
food...!

Did you ever fancy a world where wishes come true as future
misfortunes are easily predicted as well as annihilated by the
positive forces of human mind? Would that not be magick? What a
wonderful world it could be!

Would you agree on human beings being influenced by the celestial
bodies much as everything is in mutual influence as enmeshed in
eternal creation?

Mysterious forces at work frame human fate as unfathomed by
astrology. The future is molded in advance by the use of magick1.

We use the organized sky for our precise predictions, the better to
counter fate.

PRIESTS AGAINST PEOPLE RUSHING TO TEMPLES ON NEW YEAR'S DAY

Priests against people rushing to temples on New Year's Day

Friday, December 21, 2007

Hyderabad - Chilkur Balaji Temple chief priests have
appealed to the people not to rush to temples on January 1
as the day does not usher in the New Year as per Hindu
tradition. The practice of making it a point to visit
temples on the day is an alien concept and has been
creating stampede in temples, say chief priests --
M.V.Soundarrajan and C.S.Gopalakrishna. For Telugus, the
New Year begins on Ugadi day, for Keralites on the Visu,
etc.

"It is ironical that temples, which are to be run as per
Agama Sastras, have started special 'Harathis' in the
midnight of December 31 and January 1," they said.

You should subscribe to Runner's World and The Wellness Letter of the
University of California at Berkley, like I did.

Don't know why there isn't a real yoga fitness magazine, though.

Order UC Berkeley's 2007 Reports on Supplements and Nutrition at
<http://www.wellnessletter.com/html/wb/wbWellnessReports.html>.
