  htaccess to block folders

Author: john454
Date: Mar 7, 2008 11:56

On my domain, my host created a folder www.domain.com/stats

As per the host, this folder needs to stay, but as it stands now,
anyone can access the data in this folder.

I want to prevent everyone (including myself and search engines) from
accessing anything in this data from a browser.

Would someone have some htaccess code to allow me to do this. I prefer
not to go the route of htaccess usernames/passwords, I just want to
prevent all access.

Thank you

  Legitimate Webhost Reviews??

Author: Peteb

Are there any sites out there with legitimate web hosting reviews?

I'm finding a lot of sites with their 'favorites' in their own top
listing formats...and a lot of the hosting providers with big pockets
filling up a lot of space, but not much in the way of actual
performance numbers or overall customer satisfaction reviews, etc.

I'm looking for a low cost hosting solution but would like some more
'performance' metrics for the hosting machine instead of relying on
some sort of chat system or 2 day turnaround ticketing system whenever
I notice things like performance problems, etc. I find a lot of times
the hosting providers hide behind these 'systems' and you can't get
anyone who knows what they're talking about on the phone, or get your
hands into some true metrics of the server performance other than
stuff you can do remotely (ping, response times, etc.).

Thanks!
Pete

  Expanding Content Indexes

Author: Artist
Date: Mar 7, 2008 09:25

I want to set up framed webpages with content indexes in the left frame
that expand and contract much like folders do in the Windows Explorer.
An example of this is at:
http://msdn2.microsoft.com/en-us/library/52cs05fz.aspx
I will not want to code all this from scratch. Is there content
management software or a web page editing software with which it will be
easy to do this?

part of my email address. It is a spam jammer.

Is there a good reason for NOT using AVG FREE?

Author: ship

Hi

I see AVG/Griftsoft have started charging for AVG and no longer
hosting a FREE version (in AVG v8).
However there are still various places hosting version the previous
version (v7.5) which was free.

Is there a good reason for NOT using AVG FREE?

I have been using AVG free for a couple of years now without any
infection, and it seems fine to me.
(Better than Norton, which had a patch c.5 years ago which crippled my
PC for about 48 hours before the brought out a new patch - losing me
two working days... and I still havent forgiven them.)
I have also tried McAfee which seemed ok-ish and some Russian thing
whos name escapes me.
I think they ALL rather slow down the computer, which is irritating.

Any thoughts?
With thanks
