Seeking a US webhost / US DNS for .dk domains

Author: dk_sz
Date: Aug 18, 2008 20:32

All the usual hosts come up negative it seems:

Namecheap, hostgator, godaddy, name.com
etc. do not support .dk domains :-(

...

The reason for my need:

I have a 10+ years old .dk domain ... PR7 etc.

Yet e.g. Yahoo search engines slams it so hard
I rank very poorly for my own product names :-)

Ofcourse, Google is much much much better, but
I am quite sure I am also slightly penalized there for
being .dk domain / being hosted in Denmark.

...

I have considered getting a .com domain... but... well...
Until then, I figure I will move to a US IP address.
(Was considering changing webhost anyways)

Any suggestions? Or where to ask? I need:

pay pal alternative in South africa

Author: paul watt

I'm building a site for a friend in SA and she wanted a quick and easy pay
pal like shopping cart. The problem is you cant recive money via pay pal un
south africa due to there banking laws (or something like that). Does anyone
know of any other quick and easy credit card processors that can be used in
SA but dont charge a lot of money a month? its only a pocket money kind of
site, not a buisness roll out

Htaccess redirect, looking for second opinions before running with it

Author: Jason Carlton
Date: Aug 18, 2008 14:35

I'm moving my site from one server to another, which means a different
IP address. My local cable provider takes about 3 weeks to update
their DNS records, though, so I can't just copy it over and update the
nameservers; I need to do something for the people that are still
pinging the old server to get them to the new one.

My best thought is to use the .htaccess file on the old server to
redirect them to the new server via IP address, like this:

RewriteEngine On
RewriteCond %%{HTTP_HOST} ^www.mydomain.com$ [NC]
RewriteRule ^(.*)$ http://12.34.56.78/~mydomain/$1 [R=302,L]

I'm using R=302 because I don't want search engines to record the IP
address, obviously; I want them to retain the domain name, and to them
it SHOULD be updated pretty quickly.

My questions are:

1. Is this really the best way to handle this?

2. If so, do you see any problems with my code above?

3. Is there a way to make the redirect invisible, so that the person
pinging the old server wouldn't see the http://12.34.56.78/~mydomain
when they're redirected?

Create an Agree to Terms pop-up or interstitial on click of button or link

Author: itcassy
Date: Aug 18, 2008 08:00

I am trying to get direction for creating a pop-up similar to
iStockPhoto when you purchase a photo. I need to have some kind of
popup or message when someone clicks on a link that they must agree to
terms before getting the download. When I try to search for help with
this, I only get everyone else's terms, not any actual code to help me
with this. I have tried dynamic drive and can't find what I am looking
for. Does anyone have any suggestions where I can look or any
existing code I can use?

Thanks in advance!

HypoLink-Permanent $1 Link Bid Directory
We offer advertisers a smart way to get exposure for their sites. The
position within the main categories is determined by how much the link
has been bid on and the top 10 highest bidders appear on the homepage
of the site.

Very Cool (found this info regarding Mac OSX)

Hi all.
After looking for information regarding running Apache on a Mac, I found
this link:
http://www.macdevcenter.com/pub/ct/49
I am not a Mac user but I found the info interesting anyway, (the only bad
part is the bits about running an actual live website on your home
computer), which I would not recommend.

  Task manager / logger tool

Author: Square Peg
Date: Aug 16, 2008 15:46

Can anyone recommend a tool that I can install on my website to allow
the developers to keep track of tasks, assign tasks back and forth,
keep track of progress, make reports, and the like?

I am thinking of something like project management software, but much
simpler. Just a list of tasks with each task assigned to someone and a
log of activity on that task.

Before I have one of the database guys write our own, I thought I'd
see if something already exists.

It doesn't have to be free, but I am not interested in any of the
online task management companies thaty keep the data on their website
and charge a monthly fee. I want the data on my website and I am
willing to pay a one-time license fee.

  log spam from Microsoft

Author: Sig
Date: Aug 15, 2008 14:27

I seem to be getting a lot of log spam from Microsoft. Typical entry has a
referrer of
"http://search.live.com/results.aspx?q=seminar&form=QBHP" and with a Microsoft
IP. The common factor is "form=QBHP". Since August 1, I have had 839 of these,
compared with 14 apparently legitimate search references from search.live.com
and 300 from the main Google search engine.

The effect is to mess up logs and statistics. Does anyone one know what the
purpose of this is?
