htaccess redirect root & archives to different location

Author: Justin Williams
Date: Nov 30, 2007 19:55

Greetings:

I'm trying to move my blog to a new server, but retain my old archives
at the same time.

I've setup different DNS records for each. oldschool.carpeaqua.com
should redirect to my archived Wordpress installation if someone hits
it via Google. log.carpeaqua.com should go to my Tumblr.com-based
blog.

I've got my oldschool setup working. I'm unable to figure out how to
additionally set it so anyone that visits http://carpeaqua.com or
http://www.carpeaqua.com/ will be automatically forwarded to the
log.carpeaqua.com subdomain.

Here's what I have in my htaccess file. Any help would be
appreciated.

RewriteCond %%{HTTP_HOST} ^(www\.)?carpeaqua\.com
RewriteRule ^archives(/.*)?$ http://oldschool.carpeaqua.com/archives$1
[R=301,L]

Thanks for the help.

Suggest email service if HDD space on webhost is limited

Author: walterbyrd

Suppose I want my email to go to me@mydomain.com. But, I have very
limited space on my web-host. I don't want a ton of spam every day,
and price is a concern. What are some good options?

- mydomain.com is hosted at godaddy.com. I think godaddy has some sort
of service. Is it any good?

- anyway to do this with gmail?

- is there some way to re-direct?

Any help appreciated.

  charset/CSS question

Author: Susan Bugher

re:
http://marxists.anu.edu.au/admin/charsets/iso-8859-5.htm

Viewing the page source shows this header info:

iso-8859-5 Character set

It seems to be displaying as charset iso-8859-1 in Opera, IE6, Mozilla.

I haven't figured out why. Can anyone enlighten me?

Lying down with the dog - Re: Red E. Kilowatt & Juba

Author: Doug Baiter

Someone said in a post earlier that if you lay down with a dog you
might well get its fleas, which I thought was a rather good anology.

But where do you go with a closet loon like Kenny? 'Pink Cigar' shows
no signs of wanting to inform Kenny of who he really is, otherwise by
now he'd have at least written something along the lines of 'you got
the wrong guy'. Kenny, then, is left free to continue his bizarre
theories as to how its really me, so as long as he continues getting
emails he's going to continue thinking its me. And, of course, he's
going to continue updating his hate-site on me, which is going to
trigger the change detection I have running for that page, so I'm
going to visit it to see what fresh libels he's written, which shows
in his server logs as more 'proof' that its me in the first place...

  100%% user contributed search

Author: TomTall
Date: Nov 29, 2007 20:32

Hi gang-

I'm experimenting with a 100%% user contributed search engine. It
allows users to type search keywords and what search results they'd
like to see come up. Users can also rank search results, causing
more
relevant ones to rise to the top.

Does anyone want to try it out and give me some feedback? Thanks!

The site is at: www.searchr.org.

Kind regards.

  Please Stop Calling Me!!!

Author: SAZ
Date: Nov 29, 2007 18:29

An open post to all those off-shore (specifically India-based) Companies
that are trying to partner with me:

Go Away!!! Stop calling everyday!!! I already do web development, why
would I ever sub-contract with you? If there's a problem, you're 10,000
miles away, how can I be sure it will ever be resolved to my
satisfaction???

But keep providing shoddy work - almost half my business is fixing
websites left uncompleted and/or not functioning as promised by cheap
off-shore companies. These clients get aggravated when they hear my
$60/hour fee to fix these messes, but after a while of listening to
their ranting, I point out that "you get what you pay for". The client
shopped price and got their $20/hour worth.
