7/17/2008: Intel News Brief: US preparing to launch raids inside
Pakistan:

The United States is preparing to launch bombing raids against Al-
Qaida and Taliban camps inside Pakistan after Islamabad's failure to
prevent militants operating in its soil from conducting cross-border
raids into Afghanistan, information was released on Wednesday.

This is in response to last Sunday's deadly attack by suspected
Taliban militants on a remote NATO outpost in northeast Afghanistan's
Kunar province, close to the Pakistani border, in which nine U.S.
soldiers were killed and 15 wounded.

Additionally, Afghan President Hamid Karzai's accusations of Pakistani
involvement in the bombing of the Indian embassy in Kabul and other
attacks have influenced Washington's plans.

U.S. troops in Afghanistan are massing close to the border with
Pakistan, and are poised to launch bombing raids on suspected
terrorist bases in the North Waziristan region. Troops have been
airlifted from the village of Lowara Mandi and that heavy arms and
ammunition including tanks, heavy machine guns and artillery were also
being moved into position for cross-border attacks on Pakistan.
